Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Diamond Slaughter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Diamond , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence was always a battle, especially with being bullied for so many years. I found myself hating every little detail about myself because someone pointed it out in a negative way. You have to realize that everybody is born different, we were born to stand out, and don’t always have to fit into the box that society considers acceptable. It’s a process to start loving yourself especially nowadays where social media has deemed certain qualities as acceptable and others unacceptable. You have to be your biggest fan when no one else is I am proud to be a black woman who is plus size, who is queer, who is me. You are loved and you’re not alone with your insecurities we are human after all.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a model, singer/songwriter, and digital artist! It’s so exciting taking those professional photos, it’s like my whole persona just switches almost in a Sasha fierce type way! I am usually nervous, shy, and overall just timid, but when the camera is on I feel like a superstar who just won nine Grammys. I love digital art because I can be creative with anything I already have a lot of drawings that I plan on putting on clothes that’ll be size-friendly my clothing brand is in the works so I can’t reveal too much.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience is very important now trust me when I say waiting is annoying and you probably feel like it is never gonna happen, but the more you rush the more it’s not gonna feel authentic to your craft. Knowing your worth as well every opportunity is not always a good one. You deserve to be paid for your time and services don’t let anyone belittle you because you’re a beginner you’re worth more than that. Lastly, you’re human it’s okay to be upset and not feeling at your highest point. Life is hard and will kick your ass at times, and there are days where you don’t feel like kicking it back as humans we were made to feel emotions rather it be happy, sad, angry, or overwhelmed. Knowing you are human is a good step to saying ‘im valid’.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
It might sound cliche but I love my family. My mom is my greatest inspiration these days whether I bug her or vice versa, but I love that woman so much. On days when I was having such a hard time at school or in life and I just wanted to end it all she was right there comforting me. She knows heartache she knows pain and she knows how to handle life when it’s not being fair to her I’m honored to be her daughter because I know in the future when she’s laid to rest I’m gonna still be making her proud. People say God isn’t real or he doesn’t grant miracles, but he granted me the greastest angel they had whose name is Tanya Slaughter.
