Meet Diana

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Diana. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Diana, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I always knew I wanted to help people. I first thought it was the medical field. I tried being a pharmacy technician, but my empathy for people came out a lot more than I expected. I saw an elderly gentleman have to choose between his insulin and blood pressure medication and I thought “what if that was my grandfather” and I nearly cried that shift, because at that point I’d lost both my grandfathers. My father has dealt with migraines and insomnia for as long as I can remember and my mother has anxiety/depression. These happened to be my first blends, because I suffer for all of it too. For the migraines, my father and I would be taking like 800mg of ibuprofen and it never helped; if it did, it wasn’t for long. We were also starting to feel the side effects from taking so much. This started our journey into alternative wellness and we came across essential oils at a metaphysical shop. Soon, I wanted to learn more about essential oils and their benefits. I spent 3 months earning my certification because it was a self-paced program and I would dedicate 8 hours a day to learning.

Because of my grandfathers, my parents, and even myself, I wanted something better not just for my family, but everyone out there. I’m fighting a big fight and I don’t see myself giving up anytime soon or in the near future or ever. I want better and I will achieve it, one day. One step at a time.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’ve specialized in creating roll on vials and lotions to help alleviate daily discomforts and mental health. All blends are blends I’ve created and I make everything in small batches to make sure everything comes out exactly the same. I’m always open to creating a personalized blend to try and help with anything if I can.

What makes me stand out is I’m doing this because I want to. I’m not doing this just because someone told me to or because I think it’s a trend. While I have noticed an uptick in moving away from modern medicine back to our homeopathic roots, I want to offer an alternative as well. This is a challenge for me because I’m fighting against misinformation, as well as a market for highly priced essential oils. I’m doing my best to make sure my products stay below a threshold to make it affordable for everyone.

Be on the lookout! Starting October, I will be releasing Shower Melts and Bath Bombs! I have 3 amazing scents and I can’t wait to add a couple more.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Never stop learning. That is my biggest thing, especially with essential oils. Just because you think you know everything, doesn’t mean you do. There is always something more to learn. Grab as much information as you can. Being knowledgeable about what you’re doing will help you out more in the long run.
If you’re uncomfortable talking with people, especially at markets, it’s easier to pretend that they are a long lost friend you’re reconnecting with. Look for something to make a connection with and if you can’t, don’t be mad. It’s not going to happen with everyone. Some people are just there to look and see what you have to offer and others are serious about making a purchase.
Don’t be so hard on yourself. The biggest expectations can come from yourself. I know I hold myself to a higher standard and it won’t help if you keep raising that standard. Keep it in a place that is comfortable, to start with. As you feel it getting easier, raise it slightly. It’s important to push your comfort zone, but not so fast and hard that you strike yourself out. Take it slow, take it easy.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

My fellow vendors at markets. When I feel like I’m not doing something right or if I’m not doing enough, they always come to my aid and help me. I’ve had fellow vendors look at my booth and say “it’s not you” and it made me feel better because they know where I’m at because they’ve been there. One told me that he’s been doing this for about or over 5 years and the only thing we can do is do our best.

When I find myself struggling to make a sell, I remind myself that everyone is deciding what is important to them and I can’t make them purchase anything. The best I can do is be myself and hope for the best. While I find my mission important, someone else may not. I have to know who my crowd is and who isn’t. It’s all about finding your people. It’s a struggle, don’t get me wrong. But it’s a struggle worth going through, because once you find your people and your crowd, it feels amazing.

My fellow vendors helped me figure this out and they continue to help me to this day. Someone of them have been doing this for 10 plus years. I’ve only been doing this for 2. There are still a lot of obstacles to overcome, but I feel with my fellow vendors and the confidence they have helped me put in myself, there will not be anything I can’t do.
