We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Diana Dorsey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Diana, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience stems from my personal experiences, shaping who I am today. As a mother of three and a business owner, my days are filled with responsibilities and challenges. There’s no time to waste; I must stay focused and strong for those who depend on me.
Life has taught me invaluable lessons in perseverance and determination. I’ve always aspired for more, pushing myself to grow, find happiness, and achieve success. Each challenge I face only fuels my drive to become a better person. This relentless pursuit of improvement is what keeps me going, ensuring I remain resilient no matter what life throws my way.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
With over 10 years of experience as a wedding planner, my career is incredibly rewarding in countless ways. I get to witness my meticulous plans come to life and meet and work with wonderful people. There’s nothing quite like seeing my clients happy and relaxed as they enjoy their special event.
Beyond the beauty of event planning, I also relish the challenges it brings. I thrive on problem-solving, working under pressure, and tackling logistics. Each challenge is an opportunity to grow and refine my skills, making every event a unique and fulfilling experience.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
When I reflect on my journey and how I discovered my passion for event planning, I realize that every experience in my life has influenced the wedding planner I am today. From choreographing waltzes for quinceañeras to being a preschool teacher, these diverse job experiences have equipped me with valuable skills that contribute to my success in the wedding and event planning industry.
The best advice I can offer to someone developing their skills and growing their passion is to continually educate yourself, network actively, stay open-minded, and never give up.
I also like to remind aspiring entrepreneurs that starting a business is not easy, and it’s not for everyone. However, if you have a passion for what you do, love your work, and deliver excellent service, success will follow. The key is to persevere and never give up.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I love reading The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz and The Gold Standard by Colin Cowie.
