We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Diana Haro. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Diana below.
Hi Diana, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
To be honest, I am still working on it. It’s something that I have always had difficulty with. I’m learning to embrace the complexity of who I am. There’s days when I feel very confident and there’s days when I don’t. It’s a mixture of comparing, self-doubt and procrastination. These are all very raw human emotions and I feel like we should validate them and then try to learn how to let go and not self loathe for too long. Doubt kills creation. We are ever evolving and we won’t stop till we die. We learn something new about ourselves everyday. It’s a process and we just gotta accept the neutrality of it.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Mexican-American Author/Artist from South Central L.A.
I have worked on many types of media including painting, photography, printmaking and recently have written a children’s book about a Monarch butterfly named Xochitl who is in her personal journey to look for her tribe. The book is dedicated to my dad who has passed to the ancestral realm and to the monarch butterflies. In Mexico, the monarch butterflies represent a sign of resilience and ancestral connection. This book is also important to me because monarch butterflies are going extinct and this book is to get the next generation to help protect the monarch butterfly population. I am currently in the process of making art & craft workshops in East L.A.
I am very excited to start in this new journey and see where it takes me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Try not to focus on what others are doing, I feel like now with so much social media exposure and connections-it has its pros and cons. Pros are connecting with people and different artists but we also tend to compare on what we are and are not doing compared to them. Also, don’t let people who don’t see your potential take so much from you. When I say that, I mean do not feel discouraged when others make you feel left out, just keep dancing to the beat of your own drum-other opportunities will come. Never stop creating even if it’s not the best, just keep creating.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I connect with nature when I feel overwhelmed. Nature soothes me. As beautiful as it is, it can also be terrifying. It’s the balance. I feel like living in the city can be exhausting, it’s always moving. It’s good to ground yourself once in awhile.
