Meet Diana Ramirez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Diana Ramirez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Diana, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Thank you for having me and for this opportunity. I grew up in a predominantly Latino community, where I bore witness to the stark inequalities in healthcare access and standards that frequently afflicted the wider population. Motivated by both the needs of my community and my personal encounters with the complexities of healthcare, I was driven to effect change.

I can trace back to when my journey began during my formative years. During this stage in my life, I cultivated a deep sense of empathy and service toward others. Guided by my mother’s example of helping those in need, I became known in my neighborhood as someone adept at assisting with “healthcare paperwork” such as deciphering and completing documents and translating for Spanish speakers to bridge language gaps. My mother would say “if we can help, why not.”

Another experience I can reflect on that defined my purpose was when I endured a traumatic car accident and lacked healthcare coverage at the time. This was just before my high school graduation and leaving for UC Davis for undergrad. Suffering severe injuries, I found myself in the hospital, burdening my parents with overwhelming medical bills. Fortunately, a compassionate volunteer at the hospital aided my parents in navigating the labyrinth of the healthcare system, that still is, and easing my parents’ financial strain by helping them find donors that help pay medical bills and get healthcare insurance assistance. The volunteer went above and beyond for us, and I wanted to pass it forward and help people get insured so that they would not experience what my parents and I did.

These pivotal experiences left an indelible mark on me, propelling me toward a path that would see me evolve into a healthcare executive and the Founder of OneReliant Insurance Agency.

I can undoubtedly say my purpose revealed itself through these life experiences. The journey was not and has not been easy, but it has been worth it, and I continue to remain steadfast and driven by my resolute commitment to improve healthcare access, guide individuals through the intricacies of the healthcare landscape, and effect change within healthcare organizations.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I currently split my time as an executive healthcare consultant and as the CEO of OneReliant Insurance Agency. Managing both roles comes with its challenges and rewards.

Currently I serve as an executive healthcare consultant, I am contracted by healthcare organizations to fill in an interim leadership role, conduct assessments, optimize operational processes and design compliance and privacy programs. I hold certifications in healthcare compliance and privacy, therefore oversee compliance requirements, including those outlined by HIPAA-Privacy regulations.

On the insurance agency front, I am deeply involved in education, training, and consultation regarding healthcare plan options for individuals. Particularly, those offered through Covered California, and Medicare. Additionally, I assist individuals seeking life insurance. Given the expansive nature of healthcare, I find fulfillment in simplifying complexities and empowering individuals with knowledge about their options and potential pitfalls. Engaging with the community is also a significant part of our mission and shared by our licensed agents. You’ll often find us participating in healthcare fairs or community events across Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, and Riverside counties. Presently, we’ve extended our reach to the Palm Springs area, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to support the desert communities there.

When I am not consulting or doing something with insurance, I enjoy hiking, trying new restaurants, traveling and family time.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Reflecting on my career and journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge stand out as particularly impactful are:

Resilience: The ability to bounce back from setbacks and persevere in the face of challenges is crucial. Resilience helped me navigate through difficult times, whether it was facing rejection in job applications or encountering skepticism due to my background.

Adaptability: In today’s fast-paced and ever-changing work environment, adaptability is essential. Being open to new ideas, technologies, and ways of working allowed me to evolve and stay relevant in my field. Embracing challenges with a flexible mindset and being willing to step outside one’s comfort zone can foster adaptability.

Networking: Building and nurturing professional relationships proved instrumental in my career advancement. Networking helped me uncover opportunities, gain valuable insights, and access resources and support when needed. Building genuine connections, offering support to others, and maintaining a diverse network can open doors to new opportunities and perspectives.

Advice for early-career individuals:

Continuous Learning: Embrace a mindset of lifelong learning and seek opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills. Stay curious, explore new subjects, and invest in your personal and professional development.

Seek Feedback: Actively seek feedback from mentors, supervisors, and peers to identify areas for improvement and growth.

Stay Agile: Embrace change and remain adaptable in the face of evolving circumstances.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

An essential read is Joseph Murphy’s “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind.” If you’re pursuing personal development, self-improvement, and a deeper grasp of the mind-body connection, this book is indispensable. Personally, spiritually, and professionally, it has been profoundly impactful for me. I wholeheartedly endorse it. Always remember everything you require resides within you; you simply need to unlock it.
