We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Diana Stobo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Diana below.
Diana, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
As a mother of three, I thought my purpose was clear: to raise them to be the best version of themselves and send them off into the world to thrive. But It was more complicated; I was never complete in that role. I always wanted more. I didn’t know if that was a selfish or soul desire. I was always creating art and food and expanding homes and gardens; I worked like a soldier to help develop my children’s schools; I played essential roles in other people’s businesses, but still, the satisfaction wasn’t feeding me. And then I got sick. My body was telling me that I needed to make a change, and it somehow was the messenger to guide me toward a life of health and wellness. It never dawned on me that one day, my ailments were my teacher and counseled me into my life purpose. “To heal people through food and Love.”

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a creator, builder, and teacher. I thrive on providing accessible tools for people to find their journey to wellness. I am the CEO of two companies (Truth Bar and The Retreat Costa Rica). One offers a functional nutrition bar to help health the gut and provide joy in one’s life. The other is a Luxury Wellness Resort and Spa in Costa Rica that offers a 5-star wellness experience through food, movement, culture, emotional community, and familial-style enrichment. I am fully involved in every aspect of the business, but the customer experience is where I derive my joy. Knowing that one product or one visit sets someone up for success in their lives, to thrive and succeed in their journey to health and healing, makes me the happiest person in the world. My ethos has always been to help others achieve the ultimate state of living a good life, and when that magic happens, it feeds my happiness.
Currently, Truth Bar is in a reformulation process to add more functional ingredients. As science brings more information to the surface, we aspire to keep up with the needs of our consumers.
The Retreat Costa Rica also focuses on people’s growing desires by creating packages that enrich what they seek, such as emotional healing, sensual awakening, and mastering menopause. Expanding offerings to redefine wellness on all levels is a key to achieving a product that works.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I always say that everything I did up until now led me to where I am now. Even though I didn’t have a vision for my future, it was as if there was a more defined plan to align me on my path. I attended Cornell as a newly married woman, which landed me in the Hotel Restaurant School, and I became a culinary student and teacher, as well as a student of hotel administration. I became a chef, caterer, and raw food advocate out of great interest. I took courses in cookbook writing as a young mother to kill some time while in school; I began yoga and became a breathing and kundalini coach, as well as a study of religion and spiritual beliefs. I then recognized that I had existential gifts that led me into the healing arts, and eventually, I was thrown into business and finance, where I rounded out all my skills to become a strong leader and CEO. Nothing was on purpose, but then nothing was an accident. Sometimes, we are searching for our purpose when our lives have already set the wheels in motion to align us with it. Everything we need to know is already inside of us. If you play to your strengths, I believe you will find that is what you were meant to do.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Humbly, I could improve at many things needed to run thriving businesses. My challenges are always finding the person with the qualities required to fit into the giant puzzle and who can accomplish the parts of the job that I cannot do. It is even more daunting that they must have the passion and conviction that fit my ethos of service and growth. Then comes the challenge of financial responsibilities to give these people opportunities and have the resources to compensate them adequately so they fall in love with their position. Building a good team takes time; sometimes, we must initiate them and see if they will ultimately fit the roles. That can be a very cumbersome task.
