Meet Diana Vergara

We recently connected with Diana Vergara and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Diana, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Building confidence and self-esteem has been a lifelong practice for me. Coming from an adverse background, where my voice was often neglected, I had to learn how to build my own confidence. I did that by figuring out how to accept and appreciate everything about myself, and I mean everything. From my sexuality to my physical features, my body, my voice, my talents, and my values. I learned to find pride in what I represent. The women I represent, the history I represent, and everything I contribute to the world as a human being and an artist.

I nurture these beliefs through mindfulness and practices like gratitude, positive thinking, and dance. I have found so much power and energy in dance spaces where I’m encouraged to embrace my femininity and essence.

PS: Shoutout to Essensya’s Heelsuality at Studio 216 and BodySoulHeels with Julia Meagher, who have created amazing spaces for women to develop their confidence through dance in Los Angeles.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a multifaceted artist. I’m a writer, director, producer, performer, and newfound songwriter. Being placed in a box is too often the reality for so many of us, but I disagree. Being expressive has no limits. I have a passion for video, storytelling, and performance. I love merging different art forms into my work whether it’s creatively directing for a brand, writing my next book, or posting a video on social media. My goal at the end of the day is to create stories and pieces with substance that represent my story. That represent women look like me, and promote Central American talent.

In 2021, I founded DiLovesYou Publishing and became an independent author with my first multimedia poetry series: We Are Flowers – which made it to Amazon’s Top 100 Best-Selling Latin American authors. At the moment I’m most focused on designing my next collection of accessories under my brand and I am also am working on my next multimedia book project, which will merge all my favorite art forms into one, including music. In the meantime you can find my poetry book and LA made Centro Americana crop tops at www.dilovesyou.com. I created these shirts to bring awareness to the underrepresentation of Central American talent in the arts.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The skill I have mastered in my life is resilience. When you are creative people try to sell you success on a timeline. You’re made to believe that you have to give up art with age, or that you have to give up your life and stability to live it, but that’s not true. I believe art is essential. It is my life’s purpose, and I will continue to embrace it throughout my life. I have grown to be resilient in what I love and who I am, despite the many times I have been told no. If I could inspire anyone, it would be to believe in your self worth and be resilient – you will accomplish the things you set your heart to.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always looking to collaborate with visual artists and creatives. One of my goals is to create a creative space and community in Los Angeles, where ideas and projects are constantly exchanged between artists and creatives from all over the world. So yeah, let’s create visual art, let’s make music together, let’s model, let’s dance, let’s film! The possibilities are endless and I’m up for them all.
