Meet Diane Boyer

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Diane Boyer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Diane, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

Remaining ahead of trends throughout the season, consistently collaborating with my team to strategize how SKEA can pioneer new products and lead the ski industry, embracing flexibility to adapt each season as trends evolve. I find inspiration everywhere, but mostly in art, nature, travel, and fashion trends. In 2010 I traveled to base camp of Everest with my eldest daughter Jocelyn. It was a mother-daughter trip of a lifetime, AND the inspiration for the SKEA 2011 collection.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Half a century is a significant span of time… SKEA has stood by our retail partners through lean snow seasons and bountiful powder days, through economic fluctuations, and we take pride in delivering personalized service to all. Overcoming the hurdles of being a small, family-owned business in a landscape dominated by multinational corporations, we’ve maintained a personal touch with hands-on service. Our guiding principle has always been to prioritize the utmost care for our customers. At SKEA, we are deeply passionate about our vision: “If health is the new wealth, then those of us who embrace the mountain lifestyle must surely be the wealthiest of all!” We ardently pursue our dreams fueled by this passion.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Adapting seamlessly with each season, delivering exceptional customer service, and infusing every endeavor with unwavering passion!

I would advise not allowing others to take advantage of you and to pursue your passions wholeheartedly, leading you toward your dreams.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My mentor John Stahler. When I first joined the Snowsports Industry of America (SIA) Board, it was a “boys club”. John, whom was a fellow member mentored me, and gave me valuable business suggestions, and connecting me into networks in the ski industry.
