Meet Diane Curley

We recently connected with Diane Curley and have shared our conversation below.

Diane, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.
I have overcome burnout by “undoing.” It sounds simple (and ultimately it is!) When my life became uncontrollable chaos I certainly did not feel peaceful, successful, or even good enough. It was a dark and difficult time. I needed it to end and I needed to find a way back from the brink and create peace in my life once and for all.

While I was engulfed in the flames of burnout I realized some days are just too much to take even one day at a time, so instead I pause & take the day one moment at a time.
No pressure, just one moment at a time. I take back my power with a pause, and create calm over chaos.
It was also suggested I write a list of “all the things” I was doing. I thought, “What does it matter, these are the things I need to do!
Making a list won’t help me feel better! I don’t need a list, I need a break!”
But I wrote the list and I was surprised by the sheer amount of everything I had committed to, all the different directions I was pulled towards, and the overwhelming expectations I had placed on myself. I suspect this is true of many of us.

It might seem like you want to continue to do “all the things”, but realistically if we continue on that same path we will find negative feelings, accompanied by chaos, overwhelm, and eventually lead us to that dark destination: burnout.

My list became not a to do list, but a necessary accounting so I could prioritize what truly mattered to me.
I crossed off projects, volunteer work, and my actual job.
Turns out, I needed an income so rather than not work at all, I changed jobs to one that met my needs more fully.
I pulled back from projects and volunteering.
I practiced saying “thank you for thinking of me” or “thank you for the opportunity” without saying “yes”. I sometimes follow up with, “I’m not able to” or “I’ve got another commitment” or even “I can’t”.
I learned boundaries are healthy.
I reclaimed my time.

I encourage you to join me in the great “undoing”.
Try taking a step back, try something new, or try again. Mistakes will be made, lessons will be learned. Pause, begin again, and rise above the flames

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Challenging the narrative & influencing social media’s message, as CEO/Founder of Celebrating Women LLC, I created a global platform amplifying women’s voices & visibility, and celebrating their impact & influence; hosting events, speaking internationally, writing, editing, and publishing a unifying collection of interviews about women.
The Celebrating Women movement grew and includes a beautifully published Celebrating Women planner/journal featuring inspirational quotes from the interviews, a newly released scripture edition, (both available through Amazon) and the Celebrating Women podcast on YouTube and Meta.

I am most excited about our recent expansion and growth; Celebrating Women is now a tv show!
This season Celebrating Women will air on local Long Island channel 20 and many streaming services.
I invite you to reach out, connect, and share your story!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Communication, empathy and faith.

Communication is a learned skill that needs constant refinement over time. I learned different communication strategies such as therapeutic communication and effective team communication through education and training in my role as a nurse.
In my quest to become a better public speaker, I’ve learned techniques such as varying tone, pitch and pace to improve my delivery and performance.
Consider enrolling in courses or workshops to gain guidance and practice.
I also enjoy learning from speaker groups on social media. They can be be a great source of support and community.

Empathy is a quality that is innately within me. It is the ability to understand and share the feelings, perspectives, and experiences of others. It involves not only recognizing and acknowledging someone else’s emotions but also connecting with those emotions on a personal level.
Empathy, in my experience, encompasses compassion, warmth, insight, rapport, responsiveness, caring, and includes the capacity to take action.
Workshops or training sessions on empathy, offered by professionals, can enhance your ability to understand and connect with the feelings and perspectives of others.

Faith has guided/pushed/pulled/dragged me through life even when I didn’t want to go one step further.
I’ve always believed in God and my faith has always sustained me.
Even so, when I fully understood that my identity is in who Christ says I am, that knowledge set me free.
Free of fear and free
to experience grace, love, hope, joy, peace, forgiveness, and mercy.
I wish the same for you in your faith journey.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
