We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Diane Lee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Diane below.
Diane , so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.
In my several years of relating and meeting many different people from all walks of life, I found the value of listening to be very very important. Communicating back and forth can only be effective when you start to be the listener. Back in the day when I started to join the corporate world, I watched and observed the company’s key people spoke in every meeting as they discussed important issues, ideas and possible solutions. After the meeting everyone would have a good idea which direction every department needed to be in order to achieve the company’s goal. After absorbing all the information needed and when the right questions have been clarified it is also important to bring ideas and solutions in detailed format in order to avoid any surprises and confusion. If possible, communicate in written form while detailing every offer and ideas. Following up regarding the discussed proposal is definitely a must, this is one of the good old ways to show how motivated and interested you are to engage with the prospects.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Greetings curious readers. This is Diane Lee, your creative floral designer from Coppell TX. My childhood started in the Philippines where I grew up celebrating Christmas the earliest in the whole world. When I was growing up back in the 80’s everybody started to get very busy whenever September comes because massive planning for company parties, gifting, decorating, school holiday performance and tons and tons of family gathering were on the way. Basically, I grew up as an experienced Christmas Planner. Over the years of several Christmases, I have become very crafty in creating and modifying Christmas Decorations. I would buy several materials from different art and hobby stores so I could put together a unique piece of decor that is exclusively for our home. I wanted my work to be something very unique that would catch people’s attention when they come to our home. Many retailers sell Christmas decors from mass production lines which uses lesser quality materials due to costings. So, I decided to provide fellow Christmas fans like myself quality products which I personally handcrafted myself based on the client’s theme and specifications. Every Christmas creation I deliver is crafted by hand tied, hand wired and stitched. I do my best to use the least amount of glue as much as possible to give the final product a very clean look. After awhile of doing Custom Christmas Decorations, close friends and family have successfully encouraged me to enter the Fresh Flower Designing business. I had to spend time doing a lot of research and trials in dealing with fresh flowers since the materials I had to use were perishable and delicate. I have to admit, at first it was a big challenge dealing with fresh flowers because I didn’t have any knowledge about plants nor flowers except for vegetables of course because I use vegetables in my daily cooking. Lol….haha…..
So, after several trials with fresh flowers and learning a lot about their individual care, I finally sat down with my family and consulted with them for their input. Fortunately enough I have my family’s full support to go ahead with the fresh flower business idea.
Therefore when it is not Christmas season, I get occupied with Fresh Floral Designing for Corporate Spaces, High End Boutiques, Corporate Events, Golf Club Events, Anniversary, Birthday, Valentines and much more. My fresh flower creation are very different from many other florists because every arrangements I work on has a systematic placement of florals according to their color, size and texture. We use more flower volume rather than filling the arrangement with mostly greenery. Our business is focused on providing exclusivity and luxury floral arrangement to every client because we want every client to get more than what they paid for in terms of volume, design, quality and of course our very detailed customer service. In the long run, as my business grows and expand with bigger projects, I would like to share the blessings with other creative men and women by providing them jobs as seasonal project members. It has been one of my dreams to provide jobs with good opportunity of making profit to the hard working people. Some of us just need one good open door for a new job or a new business opportunity. I believe in Free Market, everybody has a choice which business or career they would like to engage in.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The Three most important factors that impacted my journey were; One, is being open to criticism, whenever I got criticized I took criticisms as an ingredient for my product enhancement. We may think we already know everything there is to know about our products but the truth is we still need the input from our clients. After all, the end consumers knows what they want and our task is to provide them to the best we can.
Two, is research, it is an unending learning process, in order to be updated to what the design trend is at the present or going to be in the near future. There will always be somebody who will first design something in your business industry or the market you’re serving is leaning towards a different direction. It is always a good idea to be up to date in order to keep up with the fast evolving market.
And Three, is patience, we may have all the skills or the best product in the world but we need to be patient for the world or market to be ready for the new idea especially when it comes to technology. It is up to us providers to gradually introduce what is new in the market and let the market absorb the new trend we’ve just newly introduced.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal clients are the meticulous ones who love details in products, high end quality products, need end to end customer service and the ones who value top quality.
