We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dick Lazer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dick, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
We’re just a couple of really silly dudes. We love expressing our silliness and making other people laugh. We’re not afraid to push the envelope and we like to do things that (in our minds) other people are too afraid to do. We know how profound of an effect our Dick Lasers can have on people, so that’s something that motivates us.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We invented the world’s GREATEST gag gift! The one and only, never before seen, Dick Lazer! Our remarkable novelty item is a laser pointer, that not only projects a laser (and a flashlight, and a blacklight) but 5 hilarious penis images. We provide a product that perfectly lends itself to pranks and nights upon nights of wild fun at an affordable price point. Guys and girls are loving the Dick Lazer and all of the fun things that you can do with it! Dick Lazers make bachelorette parties, fire up fraternities, light up the office and classroom, and are a main attraction at any event/celebration. They are a contagious impulse buy at any store in which they are sold.
We are proud to have invented such a silly product that makes people of all walks of life laugh. From the college girls in line to get into the bar to the middle aged bouncer at the door, everyone thinks the Dick Lazer is funny. Yes, even your grandparents will chuckle. Don’t believe us? If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Optimism: We’re dreamers. We had a dream of merging the laser pointer with putting dicks on people. Thus the Dick Lazer was born. Since launching our business, we’ve had ups and downs, but we see the laughter the Dick Lazer brings people and we just want to continue spreading this joy. We derive a lot of pride in having built this company with our blood, sweat, and laughter.
Humility is important because there are others who have done businesses, whether similar or not, who have valuable insights. There are so many aspects of starting a business you don’t anticipate, having some mentorship really helps.
Resilience: There are so many times we could’ve given up and didn’t. Some days you feel like there’s no path forward, then some days you’re on the top of the world. When you hear from a customer that your product made their day, it’s all worth it.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We’re constantly looking for content creators of all levels to interact with our product, create content and share in the joy of the Dick Lazer.
