We were lucky to catch up with Diego Navarro recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Diego with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I attribute my strong work ethics to the values instilled at home by my parents, who are exceptional individuals. Additionally, my academic journey and early career experiences, coupled with pursuing a Master’s degree, provided me with invaluable guidance from mentors and the influence of colleagues who upheld high professional and personal standards. This collective influence has shaped my belief that delivering exceptional products with a positive attitude is the key to fostering confidence and gratitude. In return, it cultivates loyalty and satisfaction among clients.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
With a lifelong passion for food and service, I earned my bachelor’s degree in gastronomy from Mexico’s best university, honed my skills at a 5-diamond resort, and pursued a Master’s at the world’s most prestigious gastronomy school. My dream is to be an ambassador of Mexican cuisine globally.
I aim to offer customers an authentic Mexican experience, delivering true flavors, aromas, and the essence of Mexico, whether they’ve never visited or yearn for a taste of home. During these challenging times, we provide affordable lunch specials to support our community. Our commitment extends to happy hour with a 50% discount on traditional Mexican cocktails, and we introduce seasonal dishes using only the finest ingredients, coupled with exceptional service.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Follow your dreams. The way to achieve them is with three pillars: resilience, continuous learning, and effective communication.
Resilience is the key to overcome challenges, learn from your best teacher in life; your mistakes and persevere. Continuous learning, especially staying updated with industry trends, expanded my skills and knowledge. Effective communication, both verbal and written.
For those starting their journey, my advice is:
1. Cultivate Resilience: Embrace challenges as learning opportunities. Develop the ability to adapt to change and maintain focus on your goals despite obstacles.
2. Commit to Lifelong Learning: curiosity is the catalyst to expand your skills. Invest time in ongoing education, whether through formal courses, mentorship, or self-directed learning.
3. Hone Communication Skills: Practice effective communication. Learn to articulate ideas clearly, listen actively, and collaborate with others.
Remember, never give up.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
