We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Diego Torres Kuri a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Diego, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I think watching my dad wake up at 5 or 6 am every single day without days off except for Sundays was something that set and example for me and my brothers. He would also talk about being the best at whatever we chose to do in our lives. He would always attend or watch seminars and conferences about innovations in his field. My mom has always loved to study and become very knowledgeable as well. When they say behind every great man there is a great woman it definitely applies to my mom and dad. So growing up watching that definitively had an impact in what I strive for.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I like to consider myself an artist, a creator, although I have ventured mostly into the acting world, I very much love all the arts: music, dance, painting, sculpture, all of it really. I like the creative process. To me it’s the best way of expression, because most times you don’t have to use words or even explain anything, you can just be and do freely. There’s a balance I believe, in order to achieve this type of freedom you must also become very disciplined in your craft.
I recently had the incredible experiencing of filming ‘Maidaan’; one of the most anticipated Bollywood movies of the past years, starring Ajay Devgn, one of the biggest movie stars in India. I got to play an antagonist role as and Australian soccer player in the Melbourne Olympics of 1956. It was my first time in India and in a Bollywood movie so it was a very cool and eye-opening experience. I enjoyed every part of it. The movie is set to be released on Friday February 17, 2023 and it’s it’s based on a true story about the Indian golden era of football so I think it would be an amazing story for a global audience.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think determination is very important. Achieving your goals no matter what. There’s power in that type of mindset. The second would be gratitude because it gives you a positive attitude towards life which makes it much more enjoyable.
Repetition is key in everything you want to master. Throughout the day just be conscious of living and practicing those qualities you want to improve.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Definitely one of the first books that I read that made me think outside the box and actually start thinking about my life as something that I could build and create is a book called ‘Life is What You Make It’ by Peter Buffet. Just the title pretty much sums the message of the book. It says that we don’t get to choose our circumstances when we’re born, wether you are born to a rich or a poor family is out of our control, but in the vast majority of cases it is in our control to make life as good as we want it to be for ourselves and even those we love.
