Meet Diego Verdin

We recently connected with Diego Verdin and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Diego, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?

My self-discipline comes from a deep desire and drive to achieve my dreams. I love creating and making art, and my goal in life is to fill it with as many opportunities as I can to do so. Self-discipline is an everyday battle, navigating the highs and lows of life and ensuring a perfect work-life balance to maximize productivity. It requires constant reevaluation of where I put my time and effort and how that affects my work and mental health. Staying healthy in mind, body, and soul is a crucial part of self-discipline because when one neglects their personal needs, they cannot operate at full capacity.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I go by the artist name JOKR, and I am a DJ Producer based in Los Angeles. I attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston from 2014 to 2018, where I honed my skills as a musician. Since then, I have moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a touring DJ. I worked for the Sample Pack and educational YouTube channel XLNTSOUND from 2018 to 2022. I have since moved on to pursuing my own business endeavors and starting my event company, “Midnight Society.” During my time in Los Angeles, I have grown my artist project from scratch and had my music supported at some of the largest music festivals in the world, played major clubs in LA, and even had a small slot at EDC.

My goal in life is to create as much as possible. I am heavily driven by cinema; my first dream as a musician was to be a film score composer, but DJ producing captured my heart. I still keep that film influence in my music and aim to create the epic soundtrack to my life as JOKR. I love the EDM bass scene and the shelter it provides to people who have been outcast from society. I aim to give those people something to hold on to, as the artists who inspired me did for me as I was growing up.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think being passionate is the most important quality to being an artists or musician. At the end of the day being an artists is an incredibly difficult career and if you are not passionate beyond belief then pick another career.

Also being persistent is extremely valuable. Being an artists will test your passion and having the will power to remember why you are doing this in those tough times will push you through.

Lastly being creative, not just in your art but in everything you do. The more you are willing to find creative solutions to your career the easier it will be to achieve success.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

I have currently been facing a pretty bad writers block but recently have been able to push through it. What has helped me is relieving some of the obligations that I have around writing/composing. Getting back ti basics and creating lots of ideas and having fun with production allowed me to tap into my feelings and create the piece of work that I truly wanted to create.
