Meet Dingding Hu

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dingding Hu. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dingding below.

Dingding , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

Developing my confidence and self-esteem has been a challenging journey. In fast-paced production environments where every moment demands quick problem-solving and meticulous attention to detail, I learned to trust my instincts under pressure. Whether working unconventional hours, in less-than-ideal conditions, or even in situations where safety was a concern, each challenge forced me to rely on my ability to find a solution—and with every success, my confidence grew.
Beyond overcoming obstacles, witnessing the strength of teamwork profoundly influenced my growth. Observing colleagues collaborate, support one another, and tackle challenges together taught me that no one has to face difficulties alone. This shared commitment not only bolstered our collective achievements but also reinforced my belief in both the process and my own capabilities.
I also learned the importance of being patient with myself. There were moments of self-doubt and worry over potential mistakes, but I eventually realized that true confidence doesn’t stem from perfection—it comes from showing up, giving your best effort, and persevering through tough times. Each challenge I overcame deepened my trust in my abilities, making all the difference in my personal and professional development.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a producer and the founder of the NOMOREHURT Foundation, where I combine my passion for storytelling with my commitment to mental health and healing. Through NOMOREHURT, I’ve had the privilege of working on projects that not only entertain but also inspire and empower people to overcome struggles and embrace self-care. What excites me most about my work is the ability to create impactful stories that help others heal, share their own journeys, and foster a sense of community.

In addition to my work in production, I’m dedicated to promoting wellness through the foundation, focusing on mental health and the importance of self-love and healing. I’ve seen firsthand how creative expression—whether through art, film, or personal storytelling—can be a powerful tool for transformation. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact of these efforts, and I’m committed to expanding NOMOREHURT’s reach, helping even more people discover healing through creative means.

Working on the production team is both challenging and exciting. Once you’re in, you really have to put your hat on and take on a lot of responsibility. It’s not just about handling the logistics; it’s about staying creative and flexible throughout the process. What I love most about working on a production team is the collaboration—it’s a group effort where everyone brings something unique to the table. I thrive on working closely with people who are as passionate as I am about telling stories.

Every production is an opportunity for me to improve, learn, and grow. I gain experience from each project, whether it’s figuring out how to handle unexpected challenges or finding new ways to tell a story that resonates with an audience. Sonder was a great example of that. Being part of that team allowed me to collaborate with an incredible group of people and create something I’m really proud of. It’s a process that’s constantly evolving, but that’s what makes it so rewarding. Sonder has had a great run at festivals like the Independent Shorts Awards, Malibu Film Festival, and the Amsterdam Short Film Festival, where it even won Best Film. It really shows my approach to storytelling—authentic, emotional, and with a real human touch. I’m proud of our team and everyone who contributed to this project, and it’s made me even more eager to tell more stories!

I’ve also worked on projects like The Rebel Girls and many other amazing films. Each project helps me refine my skills and learn more about the entire filmmaking process, from production to post. The Rebel Girls won Best Television Pilot at the Cinequest San Jose Film Festival in 2024 and is striving to be shortlisted for the Best Short Narrative Film category at the 97th Academy Awards. It’s been honored at several major, Oscar-qualifying festivals, including Best Episodic at Cinequest, Best Short Film at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, and Best Short Film and Best of the Festival at the BronzeLens Film Festival. The Rebel Girls tells the true story of young African American girls who were unjustly imprisoned in 1963 Americus, Georgia, after a protest to desegregate a local movie theater.

What sets me apart? I’d say it’s my balance of creativity and practicality. I’m able to bring a vision to life while staying grounded in the details that make everything come together.

What I’m most proud of is the work I’ve done that not only brings great stories to life but also connects with people. For me, it’s all about finding those moments that resonate with the audience and make a lasting impact. Right now, I’m focusing on several exciting initiatives through the foundation, including upcoming wellness events, collaborations with artists and mental health advocates, and creating more storytelling opportunities that bring people together to heal. I’m always looking for new ways to connect, create, and support the mental health community through the power of art and healing.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are resilience, creativity, and collaboration.

Resilience: The film industry and wellness work both come with their share of challenges, setbacks, and moments of doubt. Being resilient—pushing through tough times, learning from failures, and staying focused on the bigger picture—has been one of the most important skills I’ve developed. I’d advise those early in their journey to embrace challenges as learning opportunities. Don’t be afraid to fail—use those moments to bounce back stronger. Life can turn upside down, but every challenge is a chance to grow.

Creativity: Whether I’m producing a film or working on a wellness project, creativity is at the core of what I do. It’s what drives me to find new ways to tell stories and engage people. For those starting out, I recommend embracing your creative side and exploring it without limitations. Try different approaches, take risks, and allow yourself the freedom to experiment. Your unique voice is what will set you apart. Stay curious, catch good stories, and dig deep—don’t waste time waiting for things to be perfect, just go for it.

Collaboration: The film industry, in particular, is a team effort, and I’ve learned that no one does it alone. Working well with others, being open to feedback, and sharing ideas is key to any successful project. My advice here is simple—build a network, learn from your peers, and always be willing to give and receive constructive feedback. The more you collaborate, the more you’ll grow and learn.

For anyone early in their journey, my advice is to stay curious and patient. Invest time in building your skills, stay open to new experiences, and most importantly, don’t give up. Trust the process and the people you meet along the way—they’ll help shape your journey.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Yes, I’m always open to collaborating and partnering with people who are as passionate about storytelling and wellness as I am. I’m looking for individuals and organizations in the creative fields—especially those interested in mental health and wellness—who are excited about collaborating on a mental health film festival. If you’re in the entertainment industry and are looking to get involved in the festival, I’d love to connect with you!

In addition to film projects, I’m also passionate about hosting events that bring people together to build strong, supportive communities. I believe in the power of shared experiences and the importance of creating spaces where individuals can connect, heal, and grow. If you’re interested in partnering for events focused on wellness, mental health, or community-building, feel free to reach out!

Let’s work together to create meaningful projects that inspire and bring positive change.
