Meet Dion King

We were lucky to catch up with Dion King recently and have shared our conversation below.

Dion, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I haven’t. I’m still shifty in that area honestly. It is a conscious effort every single day to remind myself that I am a professional DJ, Rapper and Producer. I have been paid for all three acts at some point in my life but I still don’t feel like it. However, I know one day I will.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am KING DION. I’m a musician, I always have been. Considering my career so far though, I am also relentless. My next song “Shifty” is an account of the first leg of my career. I did a mad dash as soon as the race began. All I have to do is keep going now. By the way, the instrumental to that song is absolutely amazing. Special thanks to 3410 Sounds for being a literal genius.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Be blind, be deaf and be delusional. The world doesn’t understand your idea. You can’t blame them, they’ve never seen anything like it before. In your early artistic stages It’s important that you ignore the opinions and keep driving your stake into the new land that you were told to claim.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The Bible. I read it everyday. I was born into a family of Jehovah’s Witnesses. I experienced religious prejudice. It discouraged me from sharing my faith at first. But an excerpt from 1st Peter chapter two titled “The Living stone and a chosen people” helped me. It states that those who are rejected by humans, are chosen by God and are precious to him. They can laugh, they can reject me. God will not.
