Meet Dionne Holley

We were lucky to catch up with Dionne Holley recently and have shared our conversation below.

Dionne, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

The ones following in my footsteps. There is no doubt in my mind that my calling as a Beauty Professional is undeniable. I’ve paved my path in an industry that lacked popularity when I began 15 years ago, with scarce mentors or sources of inspiration, and before the era of social media dominance. I yearn for a mentor like myself back then, someone that looked like ME, sound like ME; someone relatable, to guide me through this journey. Whenever doubt or imposter syndrome threatens to creep in, I reflect on the aspiring “ME’s” who are following behind, hoping to emulate someone like me in their own futures.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a Professional Makeup Artist, Esthetician, Esthetic Instructor & Cosmetic Laser Practitioner all licensed in the state of Florida, Georgia and Texas. Presently, I’m in the process of establishing Dionne Holley Aesthetics Studio, a cutting-edge medical spa focusing on skincare, laser hair removal, and training for fellow licensed professionals. I’m thrilled to showcase, alongside my incredible team, our expertise in holistic skincare and education, helping individuals achieve their desired aesthetic. What sets Dionne Holley Aesthetics apart is the transformative EXPERIENCE we offer, aimed at enhancing beauty from within. Our mission is to enhance the world’s beauty, one face and body at a time, because when you look good, you feel good!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three pivotal elements that I would say influenced my journey include engaging in therapy, establishing boundaries, and surrounding myself with individuals who genuinely supported my personal and professional growth. While these may not align with conventional “beauty” traits or talents, I’ve learned over time that when one’s personal affairs are in order, it positively impacts their professional endeavors. Dionne Holley Aesthetics owes its success not just to the work on the brand, but equally to the work on myself, Dionne Holley, and all that pertains to me.

For newcomers entering the industry, my advice is simple: stay true to yourself and pursue what you’re passionate about! By prioritizing authenticity and following your passion, you’ll naturally attract individuals—especially clients—who resonate with your genuine self. When you’re doing what you love, it never truly feels like work.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I start to feel overwhelmed, my go-to strategy is to take a step back and return to what grounds me. This practice allows me to recalibrate and refocus, preparing me to tackle the task at hand with renewed clarity. In a society that often rushes and where we may feel pressured to prove ourselves, it’s crucial to remind myself that progress comes through steady, deliberate steps. It’s not about sprinting but rather pacing oneself for the marathon, trusting in the timing set by God.
