We were lucky to catch up with Dirk and Michelle Uys recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dirk and Michelle , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
We are both professionals with a background in Engineering and Pharmacy respectively. We learned from early on that our actions are what determine the outcome of our customer or patient. When we started Temecula Wine Country E-bike Rentals and Uys Garagiste Winery we naturally translated that to our current business to provide a high quality guest experience. Our focus is to treat our guests as if they are family. That is what drives our work ethic and quest to continuously improve quality and guest experiences.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Our focus at Temecula Wine Country E-bikes is to provide a fun and easy way for everyone to experience what Temecula has to offer. Our e-bikes have been specially selected to provide enough power to make your ride easy and effortless. E-bikes are a great equalizer for a group with different levels of fitness to have fun together. Our location is in the center of Wine Country which is the perfect place to start your adventure. We provide a map with discussion of what the area has to offer, and a concierge service to guide you based on what you would like to experience during your e-bike ride.
We are very excited to provide you with another fun experience at the same location. Since we also operate a small winery and offer tastings and vineyard tours, you will have the option to make your Wine Country experience even more exciting. We are currently the smallest winery in Temecula and the only winery that makes natural wines with minimal intervention in the vineyard and cellar. Nothing beats Cycle and Sip!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In order to start a small business you have to be passionate about what you do and be prepared to share with those around you. You also have to be tenacious to keep pushing for quality service and customer satisfaction. To be successful you have to be open-minded and never stop learning.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
As our businesses grow the challenge is to find enough time to expand and improve while providing the personalized guest service that is the basis of both our businesses. When you rent an e-bike we want to make sure we are personally available and use our years of local experience to guide you and help you plan your perfect day. When you visit our winery for a tasting or tour, we want it to be guided by the winemaker to explain what sets our wines apart and give you the opportunity to learn about natural wines. We wear all of these hats and are sometimes spread thin. Our solution is to be very selective and make the best of our available time and to be open to recognize the opportunity if the right partners come our way.
