Meet DJ Arie Spins

We recently connected with DJ Arie Spins and have shared our conversation below.

DJ Arie Spins, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I’m on a mission to be the best version of myself, and I’ve found that the key to success and being effective is to focus on my growth, without getting sidetracked by comparisons to others. I challenge myself every day, pushing my limits and tracking my progress. While I’m inspired by the achievements of others, I stay true to my unique journey.

As a woman in the male-dominated world of DJing, I know the power of representation. But instead of letting its scarcity hold me back, I’m fueled by the idea that I’m becoming the representation I once yearned for. It’s like a constant inner competitive spirit, driving me forward to continue chasing my dreams.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My personal goal is to authentically share the fullness of who I am through music. I’m a New Orleans native and an all-around music enthusiast, setting the tone and making events pop for crowds across the country. Having always been inspired by the rich music scene in New Orleans, I naturally gravitated towards studying and developing my gifts as a vocalist and pianist early in life, serving in local churches as a minister of music and choir director. My strict religious background often limited my exploration of varied genres of music, but living in a place like New Orleans and the evolving technological age, it was hard to keep me from exploring the depth of music beyond the four walls of the church.

I’ve quickly made a name for myself while continuing to stretch my creative muscles, taking audiences on a journey that leaves them uplifted and momentarily detached from the struggles of everyday life.
What’s most exciting is connecting with individuals who share a similar background and allowing them to know it’s okay to have duality/balance and to feel safe enough to be able to express that beyond the pressures of perfection placed on us.

My focus is to continue building my audience, both physically and via social media, and continue curating events to serve as spaces for them to be free and enjoy. I also aim to continue sharing my journey and resources with fellow aspiring artists looking to breakthrough in the evolving music industry.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most influential factors in my journey are humility, authenticity, and collaboration.

As a musician, the journey to success is one of constant learning. Remaining humble is key to avoiding stagnation and failure. In an ever-changing industry, the willingness to evolve is critical and arrogance can become a hindrance.

In a world that is constantly bombarded with information, authenticity is a powerful tool to stand out from the crowd. Creating an intimate and meaningful connection with your audience is what sets you apart. This is only possible through remaining true to yourself and being authentic.

Collaboration is an essential aspect of any successful venture. With the right team, you can expand your brand and achieve greater success. Do not hesitate to ask for assistance and be open-minded to different perspectives and ideas.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Working in my hometown has presented the most significant challenge for me. There’s a notion that one must venture beyond their hometown to gain recognition for their work before their community acknowledges and respects them similarly. This reality becomes extremely apparent as one advances in their career.

To overcome this hurdle, I’m cautious about the events I accept in my hometown, ensuring that I don’t compromise my brand’s integrity by becoming too accessible or undervaluing my services. I’m consistently expanding my clientele in other markets, leveraging travel opportunities to market myself beyond a single event. In addition, I’m leveraging social media to network and advertise my services in different markets, which has proven successful in expanding my reach.
