Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DJ KICKIT. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
DJ, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I’ve learned that authenticity is way more powerful than pretending. For a long time, I thought I had to prove I belonged — especially in my first corporate job. I code-switched, volunteered for all the “extra” tasks, took on work outside my role… all in hopes that people would see my value. What I didn’t realize then was that I already belonged. I had ideas, a fresh perspective, and a drive that was uniquely mine — but I was too busy shrinking to notice.
And even in the entrepreneurial and creative world, that same mindset followed me. I would walk into rooms convinced everyone else was bigger, better, more successful — when the reality is, we’re all just regular people. I am just as talented — and honestly, sometimes even more advanced — but I held myself back because I was raised to play it safe. Don’t speak too loud. Don’t break the rules. Don’t draw attention.
I don’t subscribe to that anymore.
When I started trusting my intuition and doing things my way, everything shifted. I recognized my value. I allowed myself to take up space. I embraced the idea that I don’t have to know everything — I can always be a student and still deserve a seat at the table.
Today, when I walk into a room as the only one who looks like me, I walk in bold. I know I’m there because I earned it. I add value just by showing up as me. And that’s more than enough.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m incredibly proud of the journey I’ve taken as a DJ — from a young girl obsessed with music to becoming a nationally recognized performer and motivational speaker. Every time I step behind the turntables, I’m reminded of what a blessing it is to share the wild ideas and genre-bending mixes that live in my head. The fact that people *dance* to those ideas — that they sing along, smile, and feel free — that’s the magic. It takes me back to being a kid hearing Janet Jackson or Boyz II Men for the first time, studying their craft, and falling in love with music’s power to connect us.
But my purpose extends far beyond the DJ booth.
I’ve had the honor of speaking to entrepreneurs, young athletes, at-risk youth, and minority groups across the country — sharing a message rooted in my own story. From the rough neighborhoods of Monterrey, Mexico and San Antonio, Texas, I learned what it truly means to beat the odds. I use music and storytelling to show others that success is not a straight line — it’s a rhythm you learn to create for yourself.
And right now, I’m stepping into an exciting new chapter.
I’m the official Wedding DJ for Season 19 of **Married at First Sight**, and I’m preparing to launch my debut book:
**B.E.A.T. The Odds — A Hustler’s Guide to Making It.**
It teaches readers how to find Balance, show up in their Excellence, stay Accountable, and channel their Tenacity — turning struggle into strength and purpose into progress.
The book officially launches in January 2026, and I cannot wait for the world to experience it.
At the end of the day, everything I do — the music, the keynotes, the book — is about empowering people to believe they belong in every room they walk into… and to turn up the volume on their own story.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me, the biggest game-changers have been:
**Self-Trust**
Believing in my own ideas has been the greatest unlock. When I stopped looking outward for validation, I found my direction.
Advice: Learn to trust that inner voice. It’s there for a reason. Take risks that feel aligned — even if no one else sees the vision yet.
**Discipline + Consistency**
Talent starts the journey, but discipline keeps it going. There were times I wanted to quit, when things were slow or unclear — but I kept showing up.
Advice: Build habits around your goals. Do something every single day that moves you forward, even if it’s small. Momentum is built through consistency, not perfection.
**Discernment in Who You Listen To**
Not everyone’s advice is worth taking — especially from people who never chased their dreams or gave up on them.
Advice: Protect your mindset. Take feedback from people who are where you want to go — or actively on their way. Someone else’s limits don’t have to become yours.
If you’re just starting your journey, remember this: You don’t need to have all the answers — you just need courage, discipline, and the determination to trust yourself long enough to see it through.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents showed me what it truly means to hustle for the life you want. I watched them navigate a world that didn’t always welcome us — because we weren’t from this country, because we didn’t speak English, because we were poor. I saw how society treated them, and instead of letting that break them, they let it fuel them. That fire — that anger — became the determination to beat the odds.
As a kid, it wasn’t easy to understand why I had to work while my friends stayed home or got to go have fun. But now, I’m grateful. Through them, I learned the power of discipline, the value of hard work, and the importance of never giving up — lessons no classroom could have taught me.
I also had a front-row seat to what a healthy, supportive partnership looks like. My parents weren’t perfect, but they always had each other’s backs. They pushed forward as a team so that our family could thrive.
There’s no greater gift they could have given me than grit — that ability to work, fight, and persevere no matter the circumstances. It’s the foundation of who I am today, and for that, I thank them.
