We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DJ Rap (Charissa) Saverio. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DJ Rap (Charissa) below.
Hi DJ Rap (Charissa), we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I always believe that anything technical can be learned. So with discipline and an obsessive work ethic, I studied all technical aspects and still do to this day. It never ends the learning. The talent is already inside you, it requires practice (endless) So for me, my confidence and self-esteem grew as I mastered my craft and continue to do so. It’s like anything, the more you do it, the better at it you get. Simple.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Firstly I simply love what I do, it’s all I’ve done since I was 15 years old! A little about my business. I own two labels, PROPA TALENT which is jungle/DnB, and Impropa Talent which is house-based.
In the UK, I’m more focused on Drum & bass, in the U.S.A. it’s tech house and pop electronica.
My world revolves around touring, running the labels, and creating and releasing my music.
Under that umbrella, I have my own merch line and various artists I work with as well as my own productions. I also teach music production privately
To give back I have a series called ‘OPEN THE DAW’ Which is a free platform where I offer 360 advice/feedback on tracks submitted by new producers and up-and-coming artists on my site You can sign up for my newsletter here and I will notify you when these sessions happen, as they are monthly https://djrap.com/open-the-daw/
The thing I am most proud of is the community I have created with my PROPA TRIBE, I run a subscription service with over 500 members that is all about our shared passion for our scene, and we are all like one big family! You can learn about it here: https://djrap.com/our-membership/
If you want to see when I am touring next, head over to https://djrap.com/ and my world lives there, you can catch my latest releases, exclusive merch drops and important news!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Determination 2. Work ethic
3. imagination
I’ll start with 3, you need to be able to dream, to see yourself on that stage playing in front of masses of crowds, it’s free to dream so dream big! Imagine yourself there, live every moment /focus on how to be in the right direction you need to go in order to get there. If you want to be an amazing singer, have singing lessons, you wanna be a sick producer learn how to produce. Become amazing at what you do.
1 +2 is how you do that.
There is a lot of sacrifice to be the best. If you prefer going out and getting smashed to working hard and giving up your free time to improve your skills, then excellence is not in you. It can be a lonely life and is not for everyone, you have to be so tough mentally because there are times when you will want to give up, and you will be broke. Victory is for those that belive, and belive for long enough.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always on the lookout for collaborations that make sense with my style of music. The right MC, the right vocalist. If you look at the success of many artists example Chase & Status they always work with singers or MCs, so I’m always looking for those!
