We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DNA Proxi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

DNA , thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
Growing up on a farm encourages one to optimize efficiency. In other words, the sooner you complete the tasks at hand, the sooner you can resume playing outside in the woods. Repeated sustainable success has resulted from such actions, so “self-discipline” becomes a reward in itself. To be a fully functional human extending my soul to others through art, it’s an honor; one I take seriously. In a barrage of distractions you must be well honed with a sharpened point to land directly where you need to build. Momentum compiles upon itself, so stay accurate, and remain disciplined to produce your best work! It’s a sense of amazement at the opportunity we have to make an impact; that feeling helps get the dishes cleaned and the shows booked. Keeping disciplined balance in life allows one to summon impactful art at unprecedented rates!!

DNA Proxi; an ongoing art project providing potent perspectives on our shared multi-billion year existence as living creatures in the cosmos. Life is an impressive collaboration, a beautiful orchestration of infinitely smaller parts that form the fractal massive whole. People have been deceived by false claims of dog-eat-dog mentalities, misquotes of Darwin’s “survival of the fittest” to excuse the exploitative behavior of psychopaths. I hope this art elevates you toward understanding your own importance within the web of life. We’ve lost the binding thread of this grand tale, misunderstanding what even got us to the dance in the first place. On the topic of dance, do you realize the “party” is an ancient invention of highly advanced peaceful HUMAN civilization!? A group of humans solved resource management to celebrate life through artistic expression, instead of subsistence struggle. You don’t see lions and gazelle gallivanting across the Serengeti singing to one another. This speaks to our advanced unification abilities within our unique delineation of DNA. You might even say our ability to achieve such long-lasting recurring peace is what makes us “human.” Countless lies are spread to amplify fear. Nature provides absolute abundance while greedy overlords squander it in perverse ways belittling everyone in the process.

To subvert such foolish division tactics we require unifying art that restores proper peace pathways. Showcasing our collaborative efforts locally we started the collective “Bio Bass Buds” to help producers procure more stage time. Starting out in any artistic endeavor can be challenging, but by forming these bubbles of probability we propel everyone into new realms of creation! Caustic competitive perception distracts from the production of your best work. Nobody can be you, so take your time to honestly express yourself in the most accurate way possible. Assisting people around you only elevates everyone including you. I speak with such assurance because of the very process by which life began, now well-documented by science. In the words of Bruce Damer, “The common ancestor’s a community, not an individual. We did not come from competing individuals, we came from a collaborative network of simple things that were donating innovations and tools to a communal structure.” Such is how DNA was formed, and this mentality is how we synthesize our collaborations.

Biological Bass music (Bio Bass) is a fusion of primarily Hip Hop and Dubstep. Solid soul-shaking basslines with lyrics that give the listener leverage on their life. In the most difficult times it was always music that was able to make me feel expansive like a sunset once again. As an actual Biologist obsessed with bass music it’s my pleasure to discuss dense scientific concepts in more digestible ways. Excessive exhaustive schedules for survival in this insane world make deep discussion difficult. If we can delve into complex topics in a 2-3 minute song with people grooving along, then we’ve succeeded! Art is personal, giving moments to pause, allowing us to contemplate our portion of reality. It becomes more magnificent when our realms link up through this shared idea-space dispersing wonderment. As Carl Sagan revealed how anyone could comprehend the significance of the cosmos if given the chance with compelling stories, I seek to transcribe the ancient secrets of DNA to reveal an enrapturing tale of unity!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patience, peace, and persistence. I was pondering my passions the other day observing how if something stirs your soul, it’s truly a solo ambition to secure such a future. Younger me dreamt of exploring Japan extensively. It took over two decades to accomplish this, but it was worth every moment spent dreaming, planning, and studying to be able to speak the language through immersing myself in the culture. It’s an artistic passion in a sense that I pursued this, as I have a deep appreciation for the Japanese aesthetic, especially when it comes to respect for nature. Over twenty years of practice, aligning myself with opportunities that made a seemingly unfathomable experience possible. A persistent peaceful patience was required! このせかいはすごい!

As artists we often forge new paths that baffle those around us. You may find it best to not even bring up what you’re passionate about because the mockery is rote and time consumingly obnoxious. The patience is required as a shield from an apathetic world that can only criticize in place of their devoid imaginations. The persistence actually creates new realities in which you find other motivated artists to build with. Persistence is appreciated by others actively aiming at their passions. Peace of mind is what holds it all together. Life will absolutely be brutal, but don’t let that detract from the beauty that blossoms within. It’s difficult when you’re emotionally aware, yet you feel surrounded by calcified souls. We’ve lost some amazing humans to the din of degradation. Your art is unique and may not even be for the time which you are currently in; it could potentially speak more potently to future generations. Remain on your path in peaceful pursuit of your art!

Final tip for serious artists, acquire two notebooks: one that contains all your account info as you should own every element of your work which will require extensive login credentials, and a second for summoning. Correct this is not witchcraft, moreover it’s the scientific method applied to your own life. Years of notes will show your dream actively taking shape. We are a species for better or worse locked into linguistic structures. It means the words you choose to represent yourself actually become reality; what you write becomes real. This also ties back to self-discipline, since writing something once is insufficient; it takes repeated focused etchings to see the vision become tangible. Once you write in your summoning tome regularly you will see reality begin to agree with your writing so long as it is natural and sustainable to do so. The notebook is where you work out incorrect theories or methodologies as well. Your plan may have been written one way, but can be recognized through other better communal means. Adapt and take note, your trajectory is magnificently unique, so grab hold of the words that have always gripped you. The realization of that dream is an elation beyond literary description; please express yourself honestly!
