Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dom L’Amour . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Dom, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Life is hard. I see so many people around me looking for a spark or looking to get out of their own way. Just being the positive person in the room can change everything. “We Gon Make it” is my motto and you can ask around. My folks will tell you that.
I want to be happy and I want to achieve my goals. Choosing this career path makes life hard. You hear no a lot. Even when no one is speaking you hear no.
No likes on a post, No text messages, No Emails, Low streaming numbers, canceled meetings, nobody showing up to your show.
I have to be ready to pick myself up. I can’t really describe how or why I keep going, I just do.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I work in the world of entertainment. I’m a lead singer with the wedding band “Big Bling and The Funk Machine”(Based in Atlanta), I sing, write and produce my own music. I have Two albums on all steaming platforms. “Sweet Dreams” and “New Art” My latest project has been my very own podcast “The Black Man Talking Emotions Podcast Starring Dom L’Amour”. This podcast introduces you to my views of the world and a great group of wonderful people in my life. It features Music, Poems, and honest conversation about topics like Love Languages, growing up in St. Louis, Grief, Roe V. Wade, Racism, Theatre, and So much more.
I wanted to create something that I could truly be myself and speak to my love ones in a healthy environment. I believe we all should have these places to speak freely. Growing up I believe I learned about myself best when I watched others communicate correctly. I wanted to give others a cool place to hopefully be inspired to create their own peace.
I have a new episode of that out every Wednesday, and I have a bonus pod every week as well! You can Stream this wherever you listen to podcast of go directly to my website.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1) Passion
2) Supportive Friends and Family
3) Open
I’m passionate about the arts. I believe it’s one of the most important aspects of our lives.
Having a supportive group of people in my life continues to inspire me to move forward with my passions
I’m open to change in my life. I’ve moved cross country, I’ve sang at open mics weekly, I’ve collaborated with people who share my same passion. I’m open and not afraid.
When I was younger I would ask folks for advice, The best thing I’ve every heard was “Be yourself and do not compromise.” That same mentor also told me to stop asking people for advice and instead ask for an opportunity.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
A great book I read years ago is Ira Gershwin’s Autobiography “The Art of the Lyricist”.
I really enjoyed reading about his life. The Wisdom I took from the book was that he was human just like me.
In one of the chapters he describes how he wrote part of the lyrics for “Our Love is Here to Stay” While his brother and Long time collaborator George Gershwin was still alive, and he finished the song after George had past away. That story has stuck with me. You never know what an artist is going through. This song is something that a lot of people look to for hope and a love tune to share with someone they care about, But for Ira it was a reminder of a heartbreaking moment in his life.
