Meet Dominic Murray

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dominic Murray. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dominic below.

Dominic, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

My purpose, for the business of AskDomm LLC is ever evolving. My learned skillsets from my various career jobs and life experiences of the past have culminated me and the business of AskDomm to its current position.

It’s kind of funny with awe and gratefulness that I’ve always were either placed in a leadership opportunity from my first basic “kid jobs” (delivering the newspaper in my neighborhood to at home chores/yard work and the responsibility associated with being the oldest child (boy) of my parents – there’s lots of leadership opportunities there. Many of which didn’t always go so well and had my dad upset with me) to “part-time jobs” as a teen (hired to be part of a catering team and multi-restaurant support) to “an every summer job (was a full and empty tote transport driver for PPG – they actually trusted me to drive totes filled with up to 250 gallons of expensive new car paints and resins from building to building in the manufacturing facility) plus part-time jobs” (retail selling of crystals from a kiosk in the mall, to retail sales of paint and tools for Sears) and as an “unofficial entrepreneur” as a college student (I was the on/off campus barber for many guys at the University of Akron – hey, guys want to look good for dates – which is another skillset I learned in high school) to “adult leadership” in my various roles for the companies/organizations I’ve had the great pleasure of being employed with (Matrix Essentials/L’Oreal as a MFG and Logistics Supervisor and Manager then to Youth Opportunities Unlimited as a Career Coach to Programs Manager and Project Manager) to now owning and operating my own small business of AskDomm LLC.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

AskDomm just celebrated completion of its 2nd year in business. AskDomm LLC is a private driver transportation service. We offer safe, comfortable and convenient driving services which are experiences. Currently, we operate in the Greater Cleveland, Ohio area but expansion is on the soon horizon.

Most ride-share companies primary goal is focused on delivering “snap-of-finger” rides to their many patrons but don’t cater to the personal touch side for each rider. That’s what sets AskDomm apart from the other entities.

AskDomm clients are repeat riders because of the personal experience received. Each clients trip is climate controlled based upon their preference, a playlist is created personally for them as well as some snacks and beverages – all based upon their preferences in the membership inventory.

My current focus is developing AskDomm LLC to become an industry leader. This is not just in company size or revenue generation (which are key components in sustainable business success) but as an inspiring, innovative model to other private drivers/ride-share drivers both locally and domestically. I was taught early on and it’s still one of my personal principles today. “When you provide good to great service in return you’ll receive good and great business.“ Some will say it’s Karma, I prefer to say it’s Galatians 6:7(b) “You reap what you sow”.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Qualities:
You have to be empathetic and flexible to work with all types of people from various backgrounds, ethnicities and beliefs; both large, smaller and even direct or person-to-person cohorts.

Skills:
Never overlook or underestimate the value of the skills (skillsets) you are learning to do a job even if it appears remedial.
Areas of Knowledge:
(with time as your experience) Look at the process of what you’re doing and always be thinking of modifications to simplify the process and maintain quality.

Advice:
Ask yourself, are your employees, clients, customers and the public satisfied with your product or service?

Be sure to have an understanding of entrepreneurship and its risks (count the costs).

Mission – What is it you want to accomplish? What’s your idea?

Industry knowledge – What experiences do you have or are first-hand witness?

Project Management – What will it take (all the intricacies) to begin and keep going?

Vision – Where do you see this going? What are future developments?

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Honestly, there’s no way to just say one person from parents to teachers to coaches to faith leaders to business leaders but for this article I’d have to say it’s my wife.

We’ve been married for going onto 33 years, been together close to 40 (since college -WoW!), have raised 2 wonderful children but she’s stuck it out with me through all the ups and downs and in her unique way has challenged me to be better and never give up. To see things from her vantage point and experiences.

You’ve got to have that support to make it meaningful.
