Meet Dominique Ayers

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dominique Ayers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Dominique, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

On the days when you feel like you can’t do anything else — just show up. Having a strong support system makes all the difference when you need that extra push in life. I’m also a big believer in therapy and how powerful it can be!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Last year, my business partner and I expanded from small studios into a beautiful 3,000 sq. ft. space in Webster Groves—home to Oakwood Salon & Aesthetics and The Bladed Brow. We offer cosmetic tattooing, brow laminations and tints, facials, and every hair service you can imagine. On both the hair and tattoo side, we have amazing apprentices growing into talented stylists and artists, which creates such a fun, supportive, and vibrant environment.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

In Saint Louis, there aren’t many resources or support systems for cosmetic tattoo artists. When you’re starting such an important and high-risk career, having a mentor makes navigating this new world so much easier. My goal with The Bladed Brow Academy is to provide a safe, supportive, and educational space where aspiring artists can grow into the best versions of themselves. Keep learning and seek guidance from quality artists who share quality information—it’ll take you far.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’d love to start collaborating with other local artists—massage therapists, makeup artists, lash techs, and nail techs—for events, giveaways, or even service trades. Instagram is the best way to connect with me! At Oakwood Salon & Aesthetics and The Bladed Brow, we also host events and farmers markets for everyone to come by, connect, and check out the salon.
