Meet Dominique Delobbe

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dominique Delobbe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Dominique , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Being raised by demanding parents within a high-achieving family had a profound impact on my confidence and self-esteem during my formative years. Until I reached the age of 40, my primary identity was that of a wife. I struggled with insecurity and a low self-worth. Three distinct events provoked a profound change in my life. training a horse, going through a divorce, and dealing with the loss of my mother. Having lived a sheltered life, I never had to defend myself in the face of adversity. The process of training my horse helped me develop unknown skills and strengths. Ending a significant relationship to preserve my self-esteem enhanced my sense of pride and self-respect. I had long believed that my parents did not take me seriously and underestimated my abilities. This proved to be an inacurate self-perception. Shortly before her passing, my mother expressed her pride in my accomplishments and acknowledged my role as the strong link within our family. This is the most meaningful gift she could have given me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

With over a decade of experience as an entrepreneur, I have acquired a unique combination of skills that have enabled me to successfully manage a farm sanctuary and an esthetician business simultaneously. My background as a businesswoman has been essential in establishing Dominifarm, my nonprofit organization. As a shy introvert, I must make a conscious effort to engage in daily social interactions, which can be draining. Time is my luxury, When I can, I enjoy reading, spending time with my pets, watching art documentaries, and daydreaming. While my family and friends are important to me, my passion for animals has always been my top priority. They are my driving force and the reason I live and breathe. My dual roles as a farmer and esthetician bring me a sense of fulfillment. Nevertheless, my sanctuary work has become increasingly time-consuming, often causing me to overlook my personal life in the process.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Passion, Resilience, Determination.

I have been an animal lover since I was a little girl, and my passion to care for all kinds of animals has grown even stronger over the years. A city girl at heart, farming didn’t come naturally to me. My quest for knowledge has led me to learn about the specific needs for each type of animals.

I never anticipated that founding a nonprofit Organization would be so difficult. Over the years I’ve encountered many different unexpected challenges, but it made me very resilient to anything that comes my way. However, saving so many animals lives is extremely rewarding. It’s the reason that keeps me going.

People don’t understand the high amount of stress, dedication, and extensive time commitment required to run an animal sanctuary,
it’s very eye opening.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

I struggled with ADD and mild dyslexia as a child, finding it hard to focus. However, reading Gone with the Wind at age 12 sparked a love for reading that helped me overcome dyslexia. My upbringing by a French scholar father and a Malagasy creative mother, along with being the offspring of a biracial marriage, broadened my cultural adaptability. After moving from France to the US with my longtime husband and getting a divorce, I went back to school at age 40 and pursued a career as a medical esthetician, eventually starting my own business. Driven by my passion for all kinds of animals, I established Dominifarm Animal Sanctuary, Inc., in 2021, a successful nonprofit organization in Kuna, Idaho. Revisiting Gone with the Wind at different life stages has given me new perspectives, and I now see it as a bold feminist novel with a timeless story. Scarlett’s resilience and determination resonate with me, and her ‘Tomorrow is another day’ motto has become my life beacon.
