Meet Dominique Jones

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dominique Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I definitely gleaned my work ethic from my grandmother. She was always doing something! From being a nurse to writing stage plays to creating her own hair care product line to owning several businesses, she definitely was a staple of what I wanted to achieve with reaching my goals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Being diagnosed with a brain tumor at nine to going through 187 chemotherapy treatments, I realized my story wasn’t just meant for me, there’s people that need to hear my journey. I self published my first autobiography called “#DamagedButNotDead” taking you through the journey of my life and sincd then, I’ve published three more books and co-authored two. After having to use a walker at age 22, that developed a a business called “WalkingByDesign” which customizes medical accessories and during the Pandemic, being stuck in the house ignited a love interest for podcasting, so iI started a podcast called “Don’t let the disability fool you” interviewing the disabled community and essential caregivers. During my journey, I realized I can help people with how to change their mindset dealing with the struggles of life, so I became a Master Certified Disability Confidence Coach but I personally go by DisabiliT ConfidenC Cōch. If that’s not enough, August of 2021 I wanted to take my podcast to another level, so I started my live talk show called “1 Billion Brave” representing the One Billion people in the world with disabilities giving them a space to share their stories of how they break the stigma beyond their conditions. I just recently had the opportunity to publish my first Children’s Disability Coloring Book called “Don’t Let The Disability Fool You” and all complete and publish my fourth book called “Early One Sunday Morning.” Which takes you through the journey of my life being a PK with two dads as Pastors in two different denominations! I’m a business owner with a disability, a Master Life Coach with muscle weakness, a podcast host that breaks the stigma and an author with a bold personality…I contradict every rule out there!! So my question is, what’s stopping you?! #DontLetTheDisabilityFoolYou

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
What I’ve learned is, people don’t want to hear what you know, they want to hear what you’ve been through. Experiences are the best lessons and I have proof that I know how to turn your vision to a reality. Why? Because I have really, truly been just where you are! The most comforting feeling is to know that someone understands you. That’s me!

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Imposter Syndrome! I never knew that was such a thing until I started doing my businesses and I don’t think I was ready. I feel like I do a lot and I know that I do a lot, but at the same time I also have this feeling, as if what I have accomplished is not quite enough, and I can do more, so sometimes I take what I’ve done and I don’t take the time to praise how far I’ve come, and what exactly have accomplished. If you’re a business owner, or if you have ever wrote a book or anything in your own right, then you definitely understand the imposter syndrome is a real thing! But, I’m glad that I know, and I can pinpoint what it is , so if something I can work on.
