Dominique, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I can say that I both have and continue to overcome imposter syndrome. I find myself constantly questioning myself and worrying about meeting the standards that people have of me. It’s almost like the more I accomplish, the more pressure I tend to feel but it’s also a good thing because it feels amazing to accomplish so much despite all the obstacles.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Infinite Growth Counseling & Coaching LLC is a mental health services provider that focuses on LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and non-traditional relationships for adults. All services are provided through an empathic, sex positive lens. We provide individual, group, and relationship counseling.

Infinite Growth is so special because it was born from hardship that I, as the owner, experienced as a black, queer woman trying to enter into a white dominated field. My qualifications and competence were often challenged by both my colleagues and clients. I found myself wondering if I belonged in the counseling field. That’s when I realized that it was the environment I was and not the field itself. I created Infinite Growth to fill that hole that I felt I was missing in my field; a space where I can be my authentic self and wear my natural hair without being accused of being unprofessional; a space where clients of all backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses can access quality mental healthcare; a space where the wellness of the employees and the clients are just as important as the business profit.

Luckily Infinite Growth is expanding! We now have a director of communications, an administrative assistant, 4 therapists, and 1 life coach offering holistic healing and art therapy. I want Infinite Growth to touch as many lives as possible!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

My belief that client care should come first, that employee wellness should be truly prioritized, and services should be acceptable are pivotal to my business. Without these values, Infinite Growth would not be what it has become.

For those of you early in your journey… it may seem daunting to start your own business or private practice, but it is very much possible. It is a lot easier than you may realize. All you have to do is just start. The rest will follow.
