Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dominique Landry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dominique , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
I know that my superpower is my authenticity. I am confident to show up as my full self in any space. I’m not afraid to be different. Though ‘m not afraid to fail, I also am well prepared and an expert in my field.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the owner of Fit Enough– a wellness brand dedicated to changing the current narrative of fitness to be more inclusive of all body types, fitness levels, and lifestyles. My goal is to diversify and demystify wellness to make it more attainable for the everyday person. My emphasis is on balanced and sustainable fitness as a means to attain your goals.
We are a one stop fitness shop for both the corporate and individual. As a fitness coach and certified personal trainer, I enjoy sharing both motivational tips and easy to follow along workouts. We partner with corporations for experiential wellness activations at events and conferences as well as speaking engagements. At the top of the year, you will be able to follow along with our new youtube class series.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe authenticity, fluidity, and compassion are three qualities that have been the most impactful on my journey. I believe people follow me because they know what they are going to get. I’m not trendy, I am solid. I show my full self, even when it is not the “right” thing.
I believe in life, but especially as an entrepreneur, you have to be flexible to the ebbs and flows. You have to be willing to adjust the original plan. You have to want to learn and grow and be adaptable.
Finally, I believe strongly that if you are in any type of service industry, you should care about people… deeply. I want everyone to succeed. I want everyone to live a long life and be healthy for themselves and those that love them. I approach every day with that as my foundation.
If you want to get good at any of these, you have to first acknowledge that they are the right things for you, and then put them into practice.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to develop a love a learning. My mother would give us book reports over the summer. She always made us try new things, even when we hated them. My father was a jack of all trades and would teach me everything he knew. I could change a tire, check my oil, build a shelf, and cook a meal in high school. They made me an eager leaner. I seek out opportunities to learn and grow because of what they instilled in me.
