Meet Dominique Manning

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dominique Manning. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dominique below.

Dominique, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by choosing to see the beauty in the simple things. I believe that art is everywhere and in everything! No matter if I’m in the produce section of the grocery store or out shopping for a new dress, there is always a color combination, pattern or texture that catches my eye. I have taken so many pictures of different objects that inspire me to create that I’ve lost count. It’s become a habit that I’m proud of because they serve as little pick me ups whenever I’m experiencing a creative block.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I was born and raised in Memphis, TN. I am a mother, daughter, sister and friend. My son and family mean the world to me. They are very supportive of my entrepreneurial journey, no matter where my creativity leads me.

Although I recently opened my nail studio (Meraki Creative Nail Care Company) in November 2022, I have been a Licensed Nail Technician since 2014. I specialize in natural nail care and detailed e-file cuticle work. With sustainability in mind, all of the services are waterless and are finished with “Vegan-Friendly, Cruelty Free” Gel Polish Systems. I also make and sell my own cuticle oils. They are filled with pure essential oils and herbs that are great for your skin. The oils go the extra mile to promote healthy nail care habits outside of the studio. It is my goal to provide professional, efficient and relaxing services that enhance the health and beauty of the natural nails. The artistic flair that I bring to the nail table is simply the cherry on top.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I would say that the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey were choosing to always be a student of my craft, learning to effectively communicate and setting boundaries that allowed me to foster a healthy work/life balance. My advice to others would be to become familiar with your strengths, weaknesses and daily habits. Instead of shying away from your flaws, use them as an opportunities for growth.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I stop and take a deep breath. It may seem simple at first. But if you do it with the intention of inhaling to take in the positive energy that you need and exhaling to release the negative energy that you don’t need… it works wonders!
