Meet Donielle Mills

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Donielle Mills a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Donielle, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My worth ethic comes from growing up with a single parent of 4. Watching my mother work 11 to 7 overnight in the medical field and never complain. Even though we all know how exhausting working overnight is but pair that with being a single mother. Tired really is an understatement. I remember as a child being with my mother when we didn’t have a car riding the bus or even walking to get from point A to B. I remember us going without some days but I can’t recall one day my mother complained. I remember her doing whatever it took to take care of herself as well as her kids. My mom never giving up or threw in the towel, that right there set an example for me moving forward. I always told myself id work just as hard to take care of myself as well as be able to take care of her and anything her and my siblings needed with me being the oldest.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three must have skills/ qualities i feel are needed to work in the profession I work in would be customer service skills which is really the top skill needed. Excellent customer service skills help to build relationships with clients and to give clients a comfortable, relaxing, easy and enjoyable experience so that they not only recommend you to others but return to you. Which helps build your clientele. Secondly you must be able to take constructive criticism because there will be days where you mess up and have to be able to listen and process what it was that was done incorrectly. So you know what to do differently next time. There’s always a learning experience with whatever you choose to do in life. Last but not least time management is very important for scheduling your work load. It’s important so that you’re getting things done within a timely manner as well as preventing yourself from overworking or being burnt out. Considering these factors in the beginning helps set your business up for success. You can’t build without implementing these 3 skills/qualities.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

We all have those days where you feel overwhelmed. This happens in our every day life which is ok. It’s ok to have days like that but i feel like the key to overcoming it is to embrace the feeling. Take it all in so you can work on releasing. Things that help me with releasing would be breathing exercises, going for a walk in the park, social interaction, listening to music, self-compassion, and journaling just to list a few.
