We recently connected with Donisha Law and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Donisha , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
The journey as a single mother of five has shaped a lot of my optimism. That strength and determination, balancing multiple responsibilities. It came from the love I have for your children and a strong belief in what I can accomplish for them. Proving others wrong and showing that it’s possible to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship is inspiring. My resilience, determination, and ability to keep moving forward despite doubts.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At DLaw Notary and Consulting Services, we offer a variety of services tailored to meet your needs. Over the past five years, I’ve expanded the business, starting with mobile notary services and becoming certified as a loan signing agent. This allowed me to assist title companies with real estate transactions, including buying, selling, refinancing, and more. I also provide mobile notary services for individuals who prefer the convenience of staying in their homes, whether they are in assisted living, hospitals, or simply want privacy.
I’ve built strong relationships with lawyers to assist with documents such as wills, trusts, and other legal paperwork. As my business grew, I expanded into tax preparation and became the VP of Operations for a Black-owned, online tax service based in Minnesota. In recent years, I’ve further diversified by offering life coaching services through the consulting side of the business, continuing to support my clients in new ways.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience: The ability to push through challenges, no matter the obstacles or doubts from others, has been critical. My advice is to focus on your “why” — your bigger purpose — and let that drive you through hard times. Understand that setbacks are part of the process, but they don’t define your success.
Adaptability: Expanding my business from a mobile notary service to offering tax preparation and life coaching required being open to change and learning new skills. For those starting out, I recommend staying flexible and willing to pivot when opportunities arise. Take small steps in different directions to see what works best for your business or personal growth.
Relationship-building: Partnering with title companies and lawyers, as well as building trust with clients, helped me grow my business. Networking and fostering genuine relationships are key. I encourage others to invest time in connecting with people in their field, both for knowledge-sharing and potential collaborations. Always be willing to give and receive support.
The advice I would give folks who are early in their journey is focus on personal growth and professional education, and keep surrounding yourself with positive, motivated individuals who will support your journey.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I’m always open to partnering and collaborating with individuals and businesses who align with my mission. I’m particularly interested in collaborating with:
1. Lawyers and Legal Professionals: Especially those who specialize in wills, trusts, and estate planning, to continue building on the notary services I offer.
2. Tax Professionals and Financial Experts: To expand the reach of tax preparation and financial literacy services, particularly those who share an interest in empowering underrepresented communities.
3. Life Coaches, Counselors, and Consultants: Those who want to work together on personal and professional development programs for clients. Collaborations in workshops, seminars, or one-on-one coaching could bring additional value to those we serve.
4. Entrepreneurs and Business Owners: Who share the vision of helping others achieve financial independence, whether through educational programs, mentorship, or joint ventures.
If anyone reading this is interested in collaborating, they can connect with me via email at dlawnotaryservices@gmail.com, or through my business website or social media profiles. I’m excited to explore how we can work together to bring even more value to our communities!
