We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Donna Livingston. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Donna below.
Donna, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I was born to a single mother who abandoned and neglected me. I know she did her best, however, her inability to show up fully left me struggling to find self-worth and direction.
My nature as a seeker of truth and self-empowerment led me to find support through therapy and a spiritual journey.
My resilience comes from knowing the alternative isn’t very attractive. If I give up I will never realize the life I dream of.
I have always loved hand-made crafts. Particularly hand woven textiles. In 2016 I started a home decor business Spirted Cloth. It has been a real roller coaster.
I am not of the Internet generation. I expected to go to shows and sell primarily to brick-and-mortar stores and in person pop ups. All that has changed very quickly. After Covid, I realized I needed to have a very good online marketing plan.
Marketing online has been a real learning curve which I am still trying to master.
My ability to never give up and to use every failure as a lesson has served me well. I am very much still a work in process.
I believe that which I’m seeking is seeking me. That which I desire is on the way.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Spirited Cloth is a handcrafted collection of home goods and accessories, artisan-made in exotic locales explored by its founder, Donna Livingston.
Informed by a career with touchstones in both fashion and interiors, Donna travels to each destination to ideate with artisans. In this way, Spirited Cloth’s fair-trade, small-batch goods are both a reflection of their origin, but also a canvas of one’s journey.
Sustainable and beautiful items imbued with cross-cultural inspiration – we at Spirited Cloth believe that the lives we create and the spaces we call home should reflect a global and personal narrative. Anything that is made by hand holds spirit.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most important qualities I’ve learned on my journey.
- have a plan. If you don’t have a plan life has a plan for you you may not have intended.
- Listen don’t talk until you have fully processed every meeting whether personal or professional. Then Trust your inner voice.
- Always operate with the intention for the highest good of all involved.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love an investor to expand the business or a marketing expert willing to invest the time to bring more brand awareness.
