We were lucky to catch up with Donna Weldon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Donna , we can’t begin to explain how much we appreciate you sharing about your PPD experience, but we can say that so many in our community are suffering from or have suffered from postpartum issues including postpartum depression and so you sharing your story and how you overcame it might help someone who is going through it right now or in the future. What can you share with us about how you overcame PPD? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
I overcame postpartum depression by placing my faith in God to restore my mind. I committed to daily prayer three times a day and immersed myself in gospel music as a constant reminder that it was okay to be where I was. I understood that I had to experience it to truly grasp its weight. With the unwavering support of my incredible husband, both of my parents, and my sister, I discovered my purpose in this new chapter of life. I reminded myself that I needed to be present—not just for me, but for the precious gift God had given my family. I didn’t want my baby to grow up with a mother struggling with depression, especially while breastfeeding, as our bond was constant and deep. That season of my life became a turning point, strengthening my relationship with God in a profound way. I withdrew from the world, seeking discipleship and peace through His word, and in doing so, I found healing.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Donna Weldon, also known as SGT Weldon. I am a wife, a mother, an Army soldier, and most importantly, a follower of Christ. My journey has been one of faith, resilience, and transformation, leading me to create Muva BB, a faith-based business designed to be the ultimate one-stop shop for moms like myself who lacked community support and access to essential resources.
Balancing my military career alongside my husband’s active-duty service while raising a family has been challenging. I sought out like-minded individuals but found myself surrounded mostly by older colleagues who often advised me to leave the service rather than help me navigate it as a new mother. My plan had always been to serve for 20 years, become a drill sergeant, commission, and eventually retire with a full career. However, everything changed when I became pregnant, and my husband was deployed shortly after.
After welcoming our beautiful baby, I struggled to find my place in my career. I quickly realized that the support system I had invested in during my service was not reciprocated. When I went on maternity leave, I was met with resentment—some even called it my “vacation” while they continued working. I pushed myself to show up, to be present, to prove my commitment, but no matter what I did, it never felt like enough. I didn’t have mentorship but I had career progression, and every opportunity I thought I wanted, yet I was deeply unsatisfied with my environment.
The turning point came when something tragic happened to my son at daycare, forcing me to leave work early. That moment shattered my perception of what I thought my future would be. I knew then that the dream I once had for my military career might not align with the life I wanted for my family. Instead of dwelling on the disappointment, I took action. Muva BB was born from my desire to empower women through every stage of their journey—pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond—by providing quality, reliable products that I wished had been available to me.
Entrepreneurship runs in my blood, inspired by my grandmother and my father, who has been an entrepreneur since I was born. I always knew I had that drive within me. A mentor once told me, “You are bigger than what’s happening around you,” and those words stuck with me. Though Muva BB is still in its early stages, I actively share my journey on my shared YouTube channel with my husband, Walk With the Weldons. I’ve shared much of my journey on this platform to inspire and support women, letting them know they’re not alone. Whether you’re looking for guidance, hoping to learn, or simply needing reassurance, I want this space to remind you—you are never alone.
One of my most exciting recent product launches is my breast milk soap, crafted with natural ingredients that have helped my baby with daycare-related breakouts and sores. It has also worked wonders for family members struggling with acne and even helped me heal from mastitis, a painful infection caused by clogged milk ducts. Looking ahead, I am preparing to launch pumping apparel lucratively designed specifically for mothers like me who struggled to find the right clothing to wear.
What started as a small idea in 2022 is now becoming a reality. You can check out my website, https://muvabb.com, where I share tips and tricks on my blog. I am currently looking for three mothers who would like to share their stories on the blog and for mothers interested in testing product samples. If you’re interested, please send a DM to our Instagram (@muvabbms) with your name, email, and a statement “I’m interested in sharing my story” or “I’m interested in product testing”.
Every business begins with a single step of faith. God said, “Write the vision and make it plain,” (Habakuk 2:2) and that’s exactly what I did. With the support of my husband and my sister, I’ve been able to refine my ideas and remind myself of the resources and knowledge I once lacked—fueling my passion to make Muva BB a source of empowerment for women everywhere.
I love to talk so there’s no gatekeeping over here. Life doesn’t come with an instruction manual, but one thing I do know is that you have to take care of your mind, body, and soul. Find a therapist, go to the gym, take a walk, and manifest the life you want. Set goals for yourself, and notice I didn’t say small goals-because you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength.
And if you don’t believe God is real, trust me—l’ve been near death more than three times, and my story is still being written. God isn’t done with me yet. So whatever you’re going through, get up and keep pushing forward!
When it comes to your plans, dreams, and vision-don’t wait for friends, start on your own. If you want to win, remove all distractions and stay focused. Use your 9-5 to fund your 5-9 and beyond. That’s exactly how I’m starting, and I know many others have done the same. No instruction manual, no head start from wealthy parents, no investors
—just countless sleepless nights of execution, a dream, and faith the size of a mustard seed.
I’ve accumulated over six notebooks full of notes from courses, many of which I’ve either misplaced or never revisited. I share this to emphasize the importance of consistency in what you’re starting. How can you improve something if you never produce it? Stop letting fear hold you back, step out on faith, and keep moving forward. Don’t wait for the new year to say, “I’ll start then.” Start now.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities that had the greatest impact on my journey were resilience, discipline, and faith. These traits allowed me to push forward despite challenges, stay committed to my vision, and trust that everything would fall into place in due time.
For those just starting out, my biggest piece of advice is to stay focused on your own path. Don’t get caught up comparing yourself to others—your journey is yours alone. I grew up valuing privacy, and one thing I’ve learned is that it’s better to show your progress rather than talk about it. Not everyone needs to know your plans, and not everyone who enters your life is meant to stay. Some people are there to teach you lessons, and once you learn them, it’s up to you to move forward without making the same mistakes.
When you’re new to something, you don’t always know what to expect. The second time around, you should have learned enough to move with confidence. Take calculated risks—nothing worth having comes without some level of uncertainty. But don’t spend all your energy building someone else’s dream while neglecting your own. Instead, create something that can benefit generations to come. And if you haven’t figured out your dream yet, set yourself up in a career that you enjoy waking up to every day.
Success comes to those who take the chance. Be disciplined in your actions. There are many problems in the world—find a solution, and when you do, use it to help others. Don’t get discouraged just because others are doing something similar. Think about a grocery store—there are multiple brands selling the same product, yet each one has its own twist that makes it unique. The key is authenticity, and that can’t be bought; it has to be in you. Leadership can be learned, but true leadership is natural. Not everyone is meant to lead, but if you are, embrace it and use it to make an impact.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
A book that has played a significant role in my development is The Bible, along with When the Miracle Drops by Jessica DuPart.
One of the most impactful lessons I’ve learned is the importance of visualizing your success. Creating a vision board with images of where you want to be can serve as a daily reminder of your why—the reason you wake up every day and put in the work. Surround yourself with inspiration and let it fuel your journey.
Another key takeaway is to always be a blessing to others. Kindness goes a long way, and you never know who might benefit simply from you being you. At the same time, never give up on yourself. Hard days will come, but anything of great value requires perseverance.
Lastly, find someone who inspires you and study their journey. If they made it happen, so can you. Seek mentorship, learn from others, and always be open to growth. Success leaves clues—you just have to be willing to follow them.
