Meet Donovon Gallion

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Donovon Gallion a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Donovon , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I developed my confidence & self esteem through out time, I use to suck at rapping .. I had to learn to rap & be confident when I do it. It took me a while though .. but once I started having fun with it more that’s when the confidence really came .

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I make music .. I’m a recording Hip Hop artist, I love doing what I do.. I love the feeling of when I make a song & people really be vibing to it. The most exciting part to me is .. when I put together a project ( EP or album) & I’m getting ready to drop it. I actually have an upcoming project dropping January 1, 2025 .. “Me Vs Me” it will be my FIRST album. There is no better way to come into the year .. than to release an album.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Patience, perseverance & Dedication.. I feel without these 3 skills it would be hard doing what I’m doing. You have to really want it.. nothing comes over night so you have to be patient. You gotta have perseverance nothing is easy.. so if you really want it gotta work for it .. simple, & the most important part is DEDICATION. You gotta want it more than the next person .. it be times where you wanna quit or give up .. you gotta keep going. How do you expect a change when you quit when things get tuff, gotta be dedicated to the journey. My advice to anybody on developing these skills or abilities.. is simply believe in yourself .. the more faith you have in yourself the easier things will get. There’s nothing nobody can tell me that will make me stop, I believe in myself ONE HUNDRED percent.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I feel you should focus on your strengths first, I just feel like it would be easier to focus on what you know how do it, Cause just because this is your strength doesn’t mean you still can’t improve on that particular ability. Like for example.. when I first started rapping when I was 13, I could NEVER say my lyrics right. I always could write them but could never say them, I just kept on working on my writing.. & working on my flow .. & eventually I found my voice & my style & eventually it all came together, & NOW I’m more well rounded with my songs .. cause I found my sound I found my flow so now it’s easier to come up with different tempos or melodies for a song.
