Meet Donzaleigh Powell

We were lucky to catch up with Donzaleigh Powell recently and have shared our conversation below.

Donzaleigh , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I grew up with very strong and intelligent people around me that knew how to “weather the storms of life”. They taught me how things are temporary and not to give up. I’ll never forget how my father would not allow me and my sister to use the word “can’t”, we would literally get in trouble if we did. Back then I didn’t understand why but as I got older I realized just how powerful the mind is and the God given power inside us.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a Nashville native and though I was a teen mom, I was determined to become successful and live a fulfilled life. I’m the owner of Donzaleigh’s Photography and what was once a “side hustle” has morphed into a scaling media production business. Donzaleigh’s Photography is now offering photography, videography, and creative directing services including commercial real estate, branding, weddings and corporate headshots and events. I am an graduate of Cumberland University with a bachelor’s in business administration and master’s degree in public service management. Former Corporate executive turned full time entrepreneur. I believe our team brings a wealth of experience and creativity to the table to help each person show up both authentically but in the best light possible.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The number one most important quality is easy, integrity. When working with people and in business I work diligently to maintain a level of professionalism and trust. When people say my name, I expect those consistent attributes such as honesty, communication and willingness to “make it right”. I encourage anyone early in their careers and businesses to stick to the core values that will last regardless of what type of work you do.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am currently seeking those in the event planning and wedding industry in regards to collaborations. As my team grows, I want to become one of the top “go-to” media production companies. In order to do that, I believe in building trust within those that are working with some of my ideal clients on a regular basis. I just developed my new referral program for select planners, coordinators, etc. to keep our collaborations and partnerships mutually beneficial.
