Meet Dorian Clark

We were lucky to catch up with Dorian Clark recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dorian, thank you so much for joining us today. There are so many topics we could discuss, but perhaps one of the most relevant is empathy because it’s at the core of great leadership and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your empathy?
Being hurt allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of people and myself. I let my pain teach me to look at things from every angle and remove bias that blocked genuine connections with people. I’m now more intentional in how I treat myself and others. The reality is, no one on this earth is exempt from experiencing pain, so adopting this thought process has allowed me to see the world differently.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Dora’s Amora is a home-based bakery business. I create custom cakes and treats for all occasions, including weddings, birthday parties, PTA sales, and corporate events. One of my favorite activities is participating in vendor events. I love introducing my business to new faces and watching them savor what I’ve baked. When you taste something delicious, no matter who you are, you get that special look, and I’m constantly nodding my head, saying, ‘Yeah, I know, right?’ It brings me pure joy. Small moments like bringing a smile to someone’s face warm my heart.

Exciting things are on the horizon; the website is currently under construction as an e-commerce platform and is expected to go live in October. I’m super excited about this and will offer delivery services within the 48 contiguous states.

Earlier this year, I decided to take a leap of faith and applied to become a food vendor at the State Fair of Texas with a new, unreleased product. I received an email inviting me to a taste testing session and received amazing feedback. A few weeks later, I was thrilled to receive an invitation to attend the State Fair master class. I’ve been in classes since July and am eagerly anticipating my internship this fair season. This has been an incredible experience and opportunity, and I’ve learned so much. I’m immensely grateful for this journey, wherever it may take me.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that were the most impactful part of the business:

The three qualities that have had the most significant impact on my business are:
My drive to succeed, which compels me to keep pushing forward during challenging times or when business slows down. I believe in being my own biggest supporter; if I’m not advocating for myself, how can I expect others to believe in my dreams?

My thirst for knowledge; I love learning about various business concepts and finding ways to integrate them into my business goals.

My creativity has taken me to places and opened doors that have blessed me with unique opportunities. It’s okay to think outside the box and be different; it’s okay to be your authentic self and pursue your dream.

My advice is that, no matter how big your dream is, you must nurture that dream like a baby and watch it flourish. Every decision you make regarding your business is a lesson; take those lessons and grow. Don’t be discouraged by failure. Keep pushing; that’s where growth happens. You don’t learn anything when you’re too comfortable, nor will you discover what works for you by staying the same.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I’m always looking for people to collaborate with. I would love to build a community of like-minded individuals where we can work together. If anyone is interested in collaborating, you can contact me via email: [email protected] or social media
