Hi Dorothy, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Finding my purpose in travel and photography was a journey in itself. It started with a deep curiosity about the world—about different cultures, landscapes, and the stories that people carry with them. I’ve always felt a pull to explore, to see what’s beyond the horizon, and to capture those moments through the lens of my camera.

Photography became more than just a hobby; it became a way for me to connect with places and people on a deeper level. Every photo tells a story, and through these stories, I realized that my true purpose is to share the beauty and diversity of our world with others.

Traveling has taught me so much about life, about embracing the unknown, and about the richness of human experiences. It’s in those moments of discovery and connection that I feel most alive, and I knew that this is what I’m meant to do. My purpose is to inspire others to see the world, to step out of their comfort zones, and to appreciate the beauty that’s all around us, waiting to be explored.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m Dorothy Rausa, the voice and vision behind Lotus Girl Travel. My journey into the world of travel blogging began with a simple desire to explore and share the incredible places I’ve been fortunate enough to visit. Over time, what started as a personal passion evolved into a platform where I could inspire others to embrace travel as a way of life, whether it’s exploring European cities, discovering hidden gems in the U.S., or uncovering the beauty of California’s landscapes.

What excites me most about what I do is the opportunity to connect with a community of fellow travelers and adventurers. Through my Instagram and blog, I share not just beautiful destinations, but also practical tips, travel itineraries, and the stories behind each place. Photography is a huge part of my work—I love capturing the essence of a location and telling its story through my lens. I believe that travel is more than just visiting new places; it’s about experiencing them fully and appreciating the diversity and richness of our world.

Currently, I’m focused on expanding my reach and engaging more deeply with my audience. I’m excited about growing my affiliate partnerships, particularly with Rock Porch and Amazon, where I can share my favorite travel products, fashion finds, and photography gear with my followers. I’m also working on creating more detailed guides and itineraries, especially for places like California and Europe, where I’ve spent a lot of time exploring.

Looking ahead, I’m planning to launch new content series on my blog and social media, including more in-depth video content from my travels, and collaborations with other travel brands. I’m also planning upcoming trips that I’m eager to share, like my road trip through the Loire Valley in France and an adventure in Japan. My goal is to continue inspiring others to explore the world, find beauty in the everyday, and discover new adventures, no matter where they are.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back on my journey, I’d say the three most impactful qualities have been curiosity, resilience, and storytelling.

Curiosity has been the driving force behind everything I do. It’s that innate desire to explore the unknown, to learn about different cultures, and to discover the hidden gems in every place I visit. For anyone early in their journey, I’d encourage you to nurture your curiosity. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, to dig deeper, and to explore beyond the typical tourist spots. The more curious you are, the richer your experiences will be, and the more unique your perspective will become.

Resilience has been essential, especially in the unpredictable world of travel and content creation. There have been challenges—whether it’s dealing with travel mishaps, staying motivated in the face of setbacks, or navigating the ever-changing landscape of social media. For those just starting out, my advice is to embrace the bumps in the road as learning opportunities. Resilience is built by pushing through challenges, adapting to new situations, and staying committed to your goals even when things don’t go as planned.

Finally, storytelling has been key to connecting with my audience and making my content resonate. It’s not just about taking beautiful photos; it’s about sharing the stories behind those images—whether it’s the history of a place, the people I’ve met, or the personal experiences that have shaped my journey. For anyone looking to develop their storytelling skills, I recommend practicing as much as possible. Write regularly, capture moments with intention, and think about the narrative you want to convey. The more you practice, the better you’ll become at crafting stories that engage and inspire others.

In short, stay curious, be resilient, and focus on storytelling. These qualities will not only help you navigate the challenges of your journey but will also enable you to create meaningful, impactful content that resonates with others.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely, I’m always excited to explore new partnerships and collaborations! I’m particularly interested in working with brands, businesses, and fellow creatives who share a passion for travel, photography, and adventure. This could include travel-related brands, fashion and lifestyle companies, tourism boards, and other content creators who align with the Lotus Girl Travel ethos of exploring the world and sharing its beauty with others.

I’m open to a variety of collaborations, from sponsored content and affiliate partnerships to joint travel projects, guest blogging, and social media takeovers. I’m especially interested in partnerships that allow me to bring value to my audience by introducing them to new products, destinations, or experiences that enhance their own travels.
