Meet Dov Fuchs

We were lucky to catch up with Dov Fuchs recently and have shared our conversation below.

Dov, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I believe my resilience draws upon several key aspects of my life and career. First and foremost, my 33 years in the aerospace industry taught me the value of meticulous research, disciplined problem-solving, and perseverance in the face of highly complex challenges. Whether I was running tests on rocket propulsion systems or troubleshooting technical issues, I learned to approach each obstacle methodically, to test and refine until the solution emerged. That same mindset now underpins my work in digital art: I’ve carried over the patience, endurance, and analytical thinking from aerospace and applied them to my creative process.

At the same time, my background in psychology and literature deeply informs my perspective. Psychology taught me to look inwards, to understand human behavior and emotion, and to appreciate the importance of introspection—especially when confronted with difficulty or change. My studies in Hebrew and Comparative Literature kindled a profound respect for storytelling and metaphor, reminding me that every challenge can be viewed as a chapter in a larger narrative. Combining these academic insights with the technical precision I acquired in aerospace has nurtured a unique kind of resilience: I’m able to tackle challenges from both a logical and a deeply reflective standpoint. This holistic approach has been essential as I transitioned to digital art, where each new Photoshop project feels like charting unfamiliar territory. Photography has been a constant companion throughout my life, and it now functions as both my creative outlet and my anchor—the act of capturing images for my compositions keeps me rooted in the physical world, even as I explore the surreal and the introspective in my art.

Ultimately, my resilience comes from embracing the unknown—whether it involves experimenting with new artistic techniques or facing the realities of aging and self-exploration. I’ve published novels, penned manuscripts, and eventually decided to direct my passion more fully into digital art. That decision itself demanded a certain toughness—letting go of literature as a primary focus was difficult, but it enabled me to invest wholeheartedly in a mode of expression that fuses the analytical rigor of science with the emotional depth of storytelling. I view resilience as the willingness to stay curious, to adapt, and to keep moving forward—even when life demands a complete recalibration of one’s goals or methods. Through my work, I hope to convey that sense of ongoing discovery and, in doing so, inspire others to find resilience in their own journeys.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a digital artist specializing in self-portraiture and Photoshop compositions. My work revolves around deeply introspective themes such as identity, aging, and the human experience. Using self-portraiture as my primary medium, I create surreal and symbolic imagery that often combines elements of psychology and literature.

What excites me most about my art is its capacity to tell stories and evoke emotions. Every piece I create is a reflection of my inner world and a narrative that invites viewers to reflect on their own lives. I find the combination of technical skill and artistic exploration both challenging and fulfilling, as it allows me to express ideas that transcend language.

Currently, I am focused on expanding my artistic reach through exhibitions and online platforms. My solo exhibition, Alone with Myself, recently took place at the Marc Chagall Artists’ House in Haifa, Israel, showcasing a collection of works that delve into themes of solitude and self-reflection. Additionally, I aspire to present my art in galleries across the United States and Europe, broadening its reach and connecting with diverse audiences.

In addition to these projects, I maintain a personal website where I display my art and engage with audiences. I am also proud to have over 130 images published on the prestigious 1X curated digital gallery, with more than 40 of them awarded by the Head Curators. My dedication to digital art has also led to two online solo exhibitions, and I am preparing for an upcoming solo exhibition in a reputable art gallery in Tel Aviv.

Through my art, I aim to connect with audiences on a deeper level, offering them a blend of visual storytelling and introspective journeys. I believe that art can be a powerful tool for self-discovery and connection, and I am passionate about sharing this vision with others.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three qualities and skills were pivotal in shaping my journey:

Curiosity and Lifelong Learning: Throughout my career and artistic evolution, an innate curiosity and desire to learn have driven me. Whether mastering the complexities of rocket propulsion or diving into the intricacies of Photoshop, this quality has allowed me to adapt and grow in various domains.

Storytelling and Narrative Thinking: My background in psychology and literature has equipped me with a deep understanding of narrative. This skill translates seamlessly into my art, enabling me to craft visually compelling stories that resonate with viewers on an emotional level.

Resilience and Adaptability: Transitioning from aerospace engineering to digital art was not without its challenges. Resilience and the ability to adapt have been key to embracing this new chapter and thriving in a completely different field.

For those starting their journey, I recommend nurturing curiosity, seeking inspiration in diverse fields, and embracing the process of trial and error. Allow yourself to explore and grow, knowing that every challenge you face is an opportunity to learn and innovate.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Yes, collaboration is an exciting and essential part of my artistic journey. I am always open to connecting with individuals who share a passion for exploring themes of identity, time, and the human experience. Specifically, I am interested in partnering with:

Fellow Digital Artists: Collaborating with other artists who specialize in digital compositions or self-portraiture could open new creative avenues and bring fresh perspectives to my work.

Writers and Storytellers: Given my background in literature, I would love to explore partnerships with writers to create multimedia projects that merge visual art and narrative storytelling.

Galleries and Curators: I am eager to connect with galleries and curators in the United States and Europe to showcase my art to broader audiences.

To anyone interested in collaborating, I welcome discussions and ideas. Please feel free to connect with me through my personal website or social media channels to explore opportunities for creative synergy.
