Meet D’pelotage Signature Wedding & Events

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful D’pelotage Signature Wedding & Events a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi D’PELOTAGE , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Confidence didn’t come overnight for me—it was a process of growth and perseverance. I owe much of my confidence to embracing every challenge as an opportunity to learn and improve. Starting my business, D’pelotage Signature Wedding & Events, in a university business class back in 2008 forced me to step out of my comfort zone. I had to pitch ideas, market my vision, and deliver experiences that met and exceeded expectations. Each success built my confidence, but even failures taught me valuable lessons. Surrounding myself with supportive people, staying grounded in my “why,” and constantly refining my craft have all been pivotal.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m the founder/ CEO of D’pelotage Signature Wedding & Events, a luxury wedding and event planning company. We specialize in curating unforgettable experiences for couples and clients. What excites me the most is bringing someone’s vision to life and knowing I’ve played a part in creating a moment they’ll treasure forever.

Right now, I’m working on a major passion project—my upcoming book, The Signature Luxe Wedding Atelier: A Complete DIY Handbook for Your Dream Day. It’s a comprehensive guide for couples who want to design their own luxury weddings with confidence. The book includes detailed checklists, budgeting tools, timelines, and creative tutorials. It also includes a tribute to my late father, Dave Roberts, who was instrumental in shaping who I am today, and a heartfelt thank-you to my mother, Elaine Joseph-Roberts, for nurturing my creativity.

My ultimate goal is to empower others to create beauty and elegance in their own unique way, whether they’re hiring a planner or going the DIY route.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Resilience: The ability to bounce back and keep going after setbacks is crucial, especially as an entrepreneur.
Empathy: Whether you’re working with clients, a team, or vendors, understanding their needs and perspectives fosters better communication and collaboration.
Adaptability: No matter how perfectly you plan, things change. Being able to pivot and think on your feet is a game-changer.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I believe in starting with your strengths—they’re your superpower. But once you’ve mastered what you’re naturally good at, invest time in strengthening areas where you’re not as confident. Being well-rounded doesn’t mean you have to do everything yourself. I’ve learned to lean into my strengths as a creative and strategic planner while outsourcing or collaborating on areas like marketing analytics or technical support. It’s all about balance and knowing when to ask for help.
