Meet Dr. Alex Silver

We recently connected with Dr. Alex Silver and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Alex , so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
I believe that in order to be effective and productive, one must absolutely emphasize a healthy self-care regiment. For me, that presents itself in the form of surfing. There’s literally nothing better than jumping in the ocean, getting some exercise, and laying down some solid rail work before getting back to work.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My story is certainly interesting- I’m a working artist as well as a Concierge Chiropractor with a private practice in Santa Monica. During the pandemic, my ability to work as a Chiropractor was put on pause due to the spread of the virus. While developing a new plan to keep my chiropractic practice going, I made a conscious decision to paint every day to keep my mind sane. Over the course of a few months, this meditative practice quickly became an obsession where I’d get lost in the process of creation. I told myself that whenever this pandemic ends, I’m carving a new path to allow both Art and Chiropractic healing to exist. Ever since I’ve framed this concept in my mind, amazing things have presented itself; the greatest being the feeling that I’m being true to myself and trusting my own gut.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First is to find a mentor or someone in your industry/field that has been doing what you’re doing for longer. It’s so valuable to learn lessons from the obstacles they’ve hurdled so you don’t have to hurdle them yourself. Secondly, be patient- nothing good comes easy. Just keep moving forward, step by step. It’s so clichè but it’s literally about the journey, not the destination. Lastly, stay in your lane- it’s so easy to look over and see what other people are doing but comparing yourself to others is a recipe for failure. You’re on your own path, so divert all that mental energy into building your dreams.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents have done is provide a space for unconditional love, support, and faith that what I’m doing will be successful.
