Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Alexis Sams, Pt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr. Alexis, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
When it comes to my work, especially in challenging conventional wisdom around food allergies and health, I’ve encountered my share of skepticism. But I’ve learned that criticism often comes from a place of misunderstanding or fear of change.
What keeps me going is knowing the impact my work has on real people’s lives. I see clients regain their health and freedom from food reactions, and that’s my motivation and inspiration for my continued work. The positive results I witness fuel my determination, and the support from those who’ve benefited from my approach outweighs any negativity.
I also rely heavily on my faith and the belief that I’m doing what I’m meant to do. Staying focused on the bigger picture—helping people live healthier, more fulfilling lives—gives me the strength to keep pushing forward, regardless of the naysayers.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I specialize in helping people uncover and resolve the underlying factors driving their food reactions, whether it’s an allergy, intolerance, or other sensitivities. What’s truly special about my work is the approach I take—using food avoidances as a diagnostic tool. This means that instead of just avoiding foods forever, I dig deeper to understand why those reactions are happening in the first place. This allows me to address the root causes, ultimately helping my clients live more freely and fearlessly.
What excites me most is seeing the transformation in my clients. People come to me feeling limited and afraid of their food reactions, and through the FoodClues™ program, they regain control and confidence. Watching someone go from avoiding foods to enjoying them without fear is incredibly rewarding.
I’m always working on expanding the resources I offer, whether it’s through new workshops, updated programs, or additional content that helps people take control of their health. My goal is to continue empowering people with the knowledge and tools they need to overcome their food reactions and live their best lives. I was excited to release my first book earlier this year -“Food Clues: Decoding the Hidden Meanings Behind Your Food Likes and Dislikes” – which serves as a comprehensive guide for anyone looking to understand and address the root causes of their food reactions. The book complements my programs and workshops, offering deeper insights and practical strategies that readers can use on their journey to better health.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities have been pivotal in my journey have been curiosity, resilience, and the ability to connect deeply with others.
Curiosity has been the driving force behind my work. In my field, the answers are rarely straightforward. You have to dig deeper, ask the right questions, and constantly seek out new knowledge. For those just starting, I’d encourage you to never stop learning. Be curious about everything, especially the things that don’t make sense at first glance or are simply stated to have “no cause or source”. The more you explore, the more connections you’ll find, and those connections can lead to breakthroughs in your work.
Resilience has also been key. There have been plenty of challenges and moments of doubt along the way, but it’s important to keep going, even when things get tough. For anyone early in their journey, my advice is to embrace the setbacks as opportunities to grow. Resilience isn’t just about bouncing back; it’s about learning from each challenge and using it to become stronger and more determined.
The ability to connect deeply with others has made a significant impact on my work. Understanding my clients on a personal level allows me to tailor my approach to meet their specific needs when necessary. This is something I’d recommend to anyone—focus on building genuine relationships, whether with clients, colleagues, or mentors. It’s through these connections that you’ll find support, inspiration, and the insights needed to grow your expertise.
For those starting out, focus on these qualities: stay curious, build resilience, and prioritize meaningful connections. These will not only help you in your work but also in navigating the ups and downs of your journey.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
One of the biggest challenges I’m currently facing is breaking down old, deeply ingrained beliefs about food allergies and intolerances. Many people have been conditioned to think that avoiding certain foods is the only solution, and that once an allergy develops, it’s a lifelong sentence. This mindset can be difficult to change because it’s often reinforced by conventional medical advice and personal experiences with food reactions.
To overcome this challenge, I’m focusing on education and empowerment. Through my workshops, programs, and the FoodClues™ book, I aim to provide people with a new perspective—one that sees food reactions not as something to be permanently avoided, but as a clue to understanding and resolving deeper health issues. I’m also sharing success stories and research-backed insights to help people see that there’s a way to move beyond the limitations of food allergies and intolerances. It’s a slow process, but by consistently offering knowledge and tools that challenge the status quo, I’m working to shift this belief and help more people achieve lasting freedom from food reactions.
