Meet Dr. Alisa Carter

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Alisa Carter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Dr. Alisa, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience or ability to recover and grow stronger after life’s challenges and setbacks from my mental and emotional endurance to keep moving forward despite the difficulties I have had to face. Overcoming a variety of personal hurdles in the past and having a strong family support system had a great impact on my resilience. My spiritual beliefs, meditation and journaling guide and sustain me as well.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

After unexpectedly faced with a forced early retirement, which was a significant shock to me, as I had dedicated my career to the same organization for over 34 years and was not prepared for such a sudden change. Faced with this setback, I needed to reassess my career path and determine how I could leverage my skills and experience in a new way. My main task was to find a new direction for my professional life. I took several steps to overcome this challenge. It was not easy but I had to draw on the techniques that I had been teaching others for years in ministry. After pulling myself out of a dark place because that’s where I initially found myself after reality set in. I was depressed, full of anxiety, sad, uncertain of the future, I felt lost. I was deep in a valley without direction and needed to find my way out. I arrived at a place that I describe as finding light in the valley. This is when I began to realize that I had a wealth of knowledge in this industry. Not only have I served in ministry for 20 plus years helping others but now that I have truly lived through the storm I can take this experience and help even more people. I decided to pivot towards entrepreneurship and my background as well as my degree in project management helped me organize my ideas and set actionable goals. As a result I began to coach clients, become a published author and found these new experiences to be incredibly rewarding.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am eager to explore collaboration opportunities with fellow writers, podcasters and organizations looking for engaging public speakers. I believe that by working together, we can create impactful content and share valuable insights with our audiences.

Whether it’s co-authoring articles, guest appearances on podcasts or speaking events, I’m excited about the possibility of combining our talents and perspectives to reach a wider audience and foster meaningful discussions. If anyone is interested in collaborating or knows someone who might be, I would like to connect and brainstorm ideas.
