We recently connected with Dr. Angela Harden-Mack, MD and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Angela, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout
At the very start of my career, I faced a moment that shaped the way I approach my work and my well-being today. In medicine, there’s a lot of discussion about burnout and why healthcare providers are at such an increased risk. We’re trained to care for others, to push through fatigue, and to put our patients first—but often at the expense of ourselves. I found myself caught in that cycle early on, trying to live up to the impossible expectations of being a “Superwoman.” I was working tirelessly, hustling for everyone else, and leaving no time to care for me.
The turning point came when I realized that wearing the Superwoman cape wasn’t sustainable—it was weighing me down. I made the decision to let her go. I had to acknowledge that I couldn’t do it all, and more importantly, I didn’t have to. I began to recognize the importance of setting boundaries, of saying no without guilt, and of carving out time to nurture myself.
Letting go of the hustle culture wasn’t just about avoiding burnout; it was about creating a foundation for a career and a life that I could sustain with joy and purpose. I learned that self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity, especially in a field as demanding as medicine. You can’t give your best to others if you’re running on empty. By prioritizing my own well-being, I became not only a better doctor but also a better version of myself.
That decision to let Superwoman go at the start of my career has stayed with me. It’s a reminder that taking care of ourselves is one of the most powerful ways we can show up for others.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the Founder and CEO of Live Great Lives Holistic Wellness Coaching and the creator of the WELL Woman Era, a movement dedicated to completely redefining wellness for professional women. My work is rooted in the belief that true strength isn’t found in self-sacrifice, but in wholeness, vibrant energy, and living from the inside out.
The WELL Woman Era is about shifting the narrative for women—from one of exhaustion, overcommitment, and burnout to one of beautiful alignment, balance, and vitality. It’s a call to reclaim our power, honor our well-being, and model a new, sustainable way of succeeding—one that nourishes not only our personal lives but also the incredible influence we have in the world.
What excites me most about this work is witnessing women step into their full, vibrant selves- embracing their unique strengths with confidence and joy. It’s not about doing more, but by aligning their lives with what truly matters to them. It’s about helping them let go of the hustle culture and embrace a life that feels whole, joyful, and deeply fulfilling. Through my coaching, I guide women to reconnect with themselves, prioritize their well-being, and create a life that supports their dreams without sacrificing their health or happiness.
Right now, I’m focused on expanding the WELL Woman Era through workshops, speaking engagements, and group coaching. I’m also working on new resources and programs to help women integrate these principles into their daily lives. This isn’t just about wellness—it’s about creating a movement that empowers women to lead with vitality, purpose, and grace.
For me, this work is deeply personal. It’s a reflection of my own journey of letting go of the Superwoman cape and learning to live in alignment with my values. I want every woman to know that she doesn’t have to choose between success and well-being—she can have both, and she deserves both.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, I would say the three most impactful areas were positivity, adopting a holistic wellness lifestyle, and learning to refine my boundaries. Each of these has been a cornerstone in shaping not only my personal growth but also the work I do today.
Positivity has been a game-changer. It creates the energy and space for personal growth and abundance. By focusing on what’s possible and maintaining a mindset of gratitude and optimism, I’ve been able to navigate challenges with resilience and attract opportunities that align with my purpose.
Holistic wellness has been equally transformative. It’s about nurturing the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—and ensuring that I aim to thrive in all dimensions of life. This approach has helped me stay grounded, energized, and aligned with my values, even in the face of life’s demands.
And then there are boundaries, which have been a powerful tool for creating the time and space for what truly matters. Learning to say no to what isn’t relevant has allowed me to say yes to the things that are. Boundaries have helped me protect my energy, honor my priorities, and live in alignment with my purpose.
For those just starting out, my advice is to begin with positivity. Cultivate a mindset of gratitude and focus on what’s going well, even in small ways. Positivity isn’t about ignoring challenges—it’s about choosing to see the possibilities and believing in your ability to grow through them.
When it comes to holistic wellness, start by tuning into your body, mind, and spirit. Ask yourself: What do I need to feel whole and vibrant? It could be as simple as prioritizing sleep, moving your body in ways you enjoy, or carving out time for mindfulness. Small, consistent steps can lead to profound changes.
And for boundaries, remember that they are an act of self-respect, not selfishness. Start by identifying what’s most important to you—your values, your goals, your well-being—and let those guide your decisions. Practice saying no with kindness and clarity, and remind yourself that every no creates space for a meaningful yes.
These three areas—positivity, holistic wellness, and boundaries—are not just skills to develop; they’re gifts you give yourself. They create the foundation for a life that feels aligned, abundant, and deeply fulfilling.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely! Collaboration is such a powerful way to expand impact and create meaningful change, and I’m always looking to connect with like-minded individuals and organizations. I’m particularly interested in partnering with those who are passionate about wellness—whether it’s for individuals or organizations. This includes corporate wellness initiatives, faith-based wellness programs, and collegiate wellness efforts.
I’m also eager to collaborate with individuals and groups focused on women’s empowerment, leadership development for women, and collegiate leadership programs. Additionally, I’m excited to work with women in business who are looking to create sustainable success while prioritizing their well-being.
My resources include teachings in mindfulness and the Radiant Success Digital Toolkit for High-Performing Women, which is designed to help women redefine success that empowers thriving in all areas of life. Together, we can create programs and initiatives that inspire alignment, balance, and vitality.
