Meet Dr. Brenda Wakefield

We recently connected with Dr. Brenda Wakefield and have shared our conversation below.

Dr. Brenda, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Being the only one in the room is a repeat performance that comes frequently for me in the industry I have chosen in my second career and with family and friends. As an avid Kingdom Health Advocate, not many hold the same tenacity to remain true to caring for our body (temple) as a sacred vessel that brings glory and honor to God daily. Society is not built to the steadfast commitment of eating healthy. We are swamped with fast food options practically on every corner. The grocery store is laden aisle after aisle with processed food with expiration dates that are suspect.

My journey for self-care was expedited by the wakeup call to my father having a massive heart attack in 1992. From there I continued into the juicing in the mid 90s and wanted to be the best version of health, to honor my temple and knowing my health impacts what I can do and others around me, mainly my family. Keeping in mind the trigger for the change also, my mother was 1 of 10 children and the loss of 7 due to heart attack and strokes is not how I want my journey to end. My lifestyle change of eating to live did not sit well with family and I was always the joke at family gatherings. That was ok with me because I felt and looked amazing. The comments would carry over into the workplace at office potlucks and other events that included food. Again, no problem I knew my why?

It is easy to be unhealthy, yet it’s another thing to eat healthy, incorporate exercise, stay sufficiently hydrated and maintain an overall lifestyle of self-care that is on-point to feeling and looking fabulous at any age. Keep in mind the triad, mind, body and spirit. Being authentic and knowing others are watching is my gold card to keep being me.

People often ask how did I get to what I do for a living as my military career is definitely different than being a health nut as I’ve been referred to as. The determination to align my health with Kingdom principles was triggered by my father’s heart attack and the twist to the career happened after a frustrating day at the office. I returned home from work and turning on the TV to unwind an advertisement for massage school on the screen awakened the curiosity to pursue becoming a Massage Therapist. After viewing the massage ad and with my interest peaked in less than a year I began the path to become a Massage Therapist.

As previous years had shown being the odd person out with my dietary choices, I stand true to taking care of my vessel. Add entrepreneur, Massage Therapist, say what? Everyone in my family held jobs working for someone else, with the exception of my mother who was a Beautician for 35 years and my sister who was an Attorney. But, Massage Therapist, touching other people, seriously! The study of Anatomy and Physiology, is fascinating and has taken me to seek the the road less traveled by others for obvious reasons to me, this body is the engine that drives us daily.

I’ve incorporated other alternative options and modalities that seem to be unheard of and that’s ok, for that has given me the opportunity to educate and provide services that leaves my clientele and other’s thanking me for being out of the box and bring real holistic solutions and uncover root causes unknown to those that have gone down the rabbit hole for so long with health challenges.

I know how effective and successful the holistic lifestyle is, as my daily choices and professional tools align with Kingdom Principles toward a path of optimal health and wellness. We all get to choose, I choose holistic natural health and nutrition to bring glory and honor to God by taking care of my temple. I walk the walk, not just talk to help others journey to being the best they can be.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m on a mission to help women over 40 create a holistic lifestyle to boldly honor their body, understanding their health is their wealth. As a woman nearing 7 decades of life I gone through many chapters to ease the burden for those who will listen the magic sauce is self-care alignment with Kingdom principles. It is imperative to respect our temple as sacred. Not just anything will do to keep it functioning at optimal performance.

As my toolbox has been filling since becoming an entrepreneur, the initial grand opening was triggered by a family crisis in my mid-30’s. For me being traumatized seeing tubes and wires coming from my first love, my dad, I knew then I had to change some things. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

As a Kingdom Health Advocate and founder of Divine Holistic Center, my journey toward natural healing and wellness has been deeply spiritual, transformative, and purpose-driven. Three qualities and areas of knowledge that have impacted me the most are:

1. Discernment Through the Holy Spirit
One of the greatest gifts in this journey has been the ability to listen to God—about my health, my purpose, and the healing paths I choose. So much of today’s wellness industry is noisy. It takes spiritual discernment to know what aligns with Kingdom principles and what’s just a trendy distraction.

Advice:
Develop a daily practice of prayer and reflection before making any health decisions. Ask, “Lord, what would You have me do with this body You’ve entrusted to me?” Let His wisdom guide your choices, not fear or fads.

2. A Root-Cause Mindset
Rather than treating symptoms, I’ve learned to seek the why behind every imbalance—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This has led me to study functional nutrition, detoxification, energy medicine, and the effects of trauma on the body.

Advice:
Don’t settle for surface answers. Learn to ask deeper questions. Educate yourself on how the body works holistically. Read, take classes, and surround yourself with mentors who understand healing from the inside out.

3. Consistency Over Perfection
Healing is not linear. There were seasons when I was exhausted, discouraged, or overwhelmed. But staying consistent in my faith, routines, and holistic practices—even when imperfect—was key to my transformation.

Advice:
Don’t strive for perfection. Start where you are. Drink more living water. Eat one healing meal a day. Commit to your morning prayer. Take one step at a time, and trust God with the rest.

To anyone early in their journey: Your healing is not just about your body—it’s about becoming the vessel God intended. Partner with Him. Be patient. And never underestimate how much power lives in the small, obedient steps.

🕊️ Your temple is worthy of care. Your healing is holy.
