We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Ericka Olson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Ericka , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I learned resilience from my mom. She showed me that strength isn’t about never falling down, but about getting back up, again and again. She used to tell me, “where there’s a will, there’s a way,” and those words became my anchor. They remind me that no matter how tough things get, there’s always a way forward if I stay true to myself and keep going

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I run Wisdom & Flow Acupuncture here in San Diego, where I specialize in women’s health, cosmetic acupuncture, and microneedling. For me, the most special part of my work is witnessing transformation—watching someone walk in feeling exhausted or self-conscious, and leave feeling lighter, more confident, and more connected to themselves. My practice is rooted in the idea that healing doesn’t have to feel clinical; it can feel like coming home to yourself. Lately, I’ve been expanding my cosmetic offerings, including microneedling for skin rejuvenation and hair growth, and it’s been incredible to see how these treatments not only change how people look, but how they feel in their own skin.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, empathy, and discipline. Resilience gave me the ability to keep showing up through setbacks. Empathy helped me build trust and meaningful relationships with my patients. And discipline ensured that I kept putting in the work day after day, even when results weren’t immediate. For those just starting out, let challenges refine your resilience, practice empathy by being fully present with others, and cultivate discipline by committing to small, consistent actions that add up to big change over time.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Over the past year, my biggest area of growth has been stepping into a deeper confidence in myself and my work. I’ve always believed in this medicine, but now I feel an even stronger drive to share it more widely and to trust the unique way I bring it to people. That passion has fueled me to expand my reach and bring acupuncture to as many lives as possible.
