We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr James Lott Jr, DD. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr James below.
Hi Dr James, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
How did I find my purpose? I get asked that many times a week from friends of mine who haven’t quite found their happiness in work or life. I found my purpose to find my purpose later in life, 40. I started the journey of really exploring what I like to do, what can make me money at the time and help others. I wasn’t trying to be a saint. I was wanting to be someone who loved what he did so much, it didn’t feel like job and I felt good about myself at the end of the end. Who knew it would be in personal services and media! Also, who knew that I would find several purposes as the years march on. Now i’m 56 and I have a mini empire of purpose.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My life’s work is all about creativity, organization, and empowering others. I’m the founder of JLJ Media, where I produce, host, and create original content — from podcasts to audio dramas to live shows. Some of my most beloved projects include Jet Boy, Fairview Heights, and Mistletoe Road.
I’m also proud to be known as The Super Organizer. In this role, I help people take control of their spaces and schedules, working both in person and virtually. Whether it’s decluttering a home or helping a business streamline operations, I guide clients toward clarity, productivity, and peace of mind.
My career is a true reflection of who I am: a storyteller, an organizer, and a builder of dreams. Through my creative projects and my Super Organizer work, I get to make a difference — not just by entertaining people, but by helping them live more intentional, successful, and fulfilling lives. And I am always working on new project with new collaborators.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being Fearless, saying yes AND no to things, trying new things, letting go and accepting outcomes and just staying in it have helped me the last 16 years. Paying attention to what’s happening in front of me and learning from it has also been a big factor in my success. My strong belief in GOD and letting his divine intervention come through is key. (I have a Doctorate in Divinity.) HE taught me to stay open, work consistently toward something, anything and not to worry, HE’s got me. HE was right. People get in their own way. They have a hard time accepting what’s in front of them. And they stay scared to take leaps of faith. In turn, there is no movement towards your true purpose.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My LARGEST growth area has been in the world of Podcasting and JLJ Media has about 80 shows under it’s umbrella. A recent partnership with the folks in Western Indiana has become a boon for my business and my purpose. My Business partner Doug Hess, who hails from Clinton Indiana, has been a Godsend to me and has been the conduit to me and the area and we have almost 20 podcasts from the area. The GIANT hit Forgotten Hollywood, to the Ernie Pyle WWII Museum Podcast to the various High School sports shows like Another Wildcat First Down, The Oriole Standard, The Rambler Report and Moving the Chains. The community is involved. They are sharing and listening to these niche podcasts. And for my company, they are making money and for ME, I feel my purpose of uplifting people..fullfilled. Plus I love the people of Vermillion County (Especially my Clintonians! )
