We recently connected with Dr. Jamie Bovay and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Jamie, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
While I have mostly been an optimistic the majority of my life as I have gotten older it is something I have purposefully strengthened. If you could be optimistic or pessimistic why would you choose to be pessimistic? Cautiously optimistic maybe, but pessimistic? Nah. So I’ve set out to always find the bright side of any situation and more importantly take every step possible that makes that bright side more likely to happen. And it’s interesting that when you are optimistic as well as determined to make the most positive outcome happen, it does happen more often than not.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
KinetikChain is a physical therapy clinic in Denver, Colorado that helps people quickly recover from pain or injury so they can stay active in their favorite sport/hobby, continue exercising, and get back to what they love to do. It’s our goal to help people get out of pain and achieve their wildest movement dreams while setting the new standard in healthcare. Everyday we get to work with people who have lost something and are looking to get it back. Maybe that is lifting weights, maybe it’s running, and maybe it is just lifting their kid/grandkid, but helping someone get back something they are missing out out on and desperately wanting is very rewarding. We get to work with some of the best active motivated adults in Denver and when we get to help them to get rid of pain, improve how they move, and resume all of their passions and hit new goals it’s easy to have a great day!
Recently we just moved into a bigger facility and have added some new team members. With the new space and new additions not only do we have sports turf, a squat rack, a climbing wall, 4 private rooms, a sports recovery area, and an outdoor park, but we will be offering massage therapy, fascial stretch therapy, personal training, and women’s health/pelvic floor physical therapy. We are very excited to continue and grow how we are helping Denverites with a goal to get back to their active lives and passions and even improve their performance.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1) Self Belief-many people if not most will think you will fail and statistics are probably on their side. You have to believe that you will succeed no matter what anyone else thinks. Either totally ignore them or use it as motivation. I love it when someone tells me I won’t succeed. Challenge accepted. The fact is most of these people don’t have the courage you have and would rather tell you you’ll fail instead of contemplating how it could be done. They can’t think like you because the fear would grip them and they wouldn’t be able to succeed. But you aren’t them. You will succeed.
2) Tenacity-being persistent, determined, and not taking no for an answer will be the qualities that will give you extraordinary success. Don’t give up. If you don’t at first succeed, try, try again.
3) Grit- having the courage and resolve to see something through is crucial if you want to make progress over time. You will get knocked down and set back. Get back up and start the process again. Fail forward. It’s not fun, but it is what will separate you from someone else with the same resources, time, and money.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Along with many other occupations the biggest challenge we are facing is finding, hiring, and maintaining good people to help us grow our mission, core values, culture, and business. We have doubled down on building up the skills of our team and are always looking to recruit excellent therapists for future needs. To help maintain our team we have tried to find ways to help the therapists grow in new ways that benefits them as well as the rest of the team and business. I’m also learning to give up control and trust the team to make bigger and bigger decisions which has been very refreshing to see them grow. As a result of our teams personal growth our culture is the best it has ever been and we have a bunch of people that will bend over backwards to get the results our patients deserve.
