Meet Dr. Jeffrey Hammond

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Jeffrey Hammond a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Dr. Jeffrey with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic was shaped early on, every Saturday morning in my childhood. While most kids might have lingered in bed, I knew that my day started with chores—helping my father in the yard, working in the garden, or fixing whatever project he had lined up. Only after the work was done came the reward: an afternoon or evening of fun.
That rhythm instilled a lasting lesson in me: put in the effort first, then enjoy the fruits of it. It wasn’t just about chores—it was about discipline, consistency, and responsibility. Those early Saturdays carried forward into my teenage years, where I balanced multiple part-time jobs in high school and college while chasing my dream of becoming a physician.
That foundation—learning to hustle, to show up, and to put in the work—continues to shape how I approach everything today.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

At Hammond Foot & Ankle, I’ve built my clinic around one simple belief: patients deserve the very best care possible. To make that a reality, I stepped away from the traditional, often messy world of health insurance and created a direct care model. This approach gives my patients greater involvement in their health care decisions and allows me to dedicate up to 45 minutes with each person—time to answer every question, educate thoroughly, and collaborate on treatments tailored to their unique goals.
What excites me most is that this model not only creates stronger relationships with patients but also gives me the freedom to bring in the most up-to-date treatments and technology available. My clinic is designed to feel welcoming, modern, and patient-focused—where innovation and personal attention meet.

Advanced Treatments and Services
MLS Laser Therapy
Our MLS (Multiwave Locked System) laser therapy is one of the most cutting-edge tools for treating pain and inflammation. It uses dual wavelengths of light to penetrate deep into tissues, stimulating cellular repair and reducing recovery time. For athletes and active individuals, it means faster healing with less downtime.
SWIFT Wart Therapy
Traditional wart treatments can be painful and inconsistent, but SWIFT is different. Using microwave technology, it targets the root cause of plantar warts by stimulating the body’s immune response. The result is highly effective treatment without the need for acids, freezing, or surgical removal.
SIDAS/Podiatech Custom Performance Inserts
As an athlete myself, I understand the importance of footwear. That’s why I use SIDAS/Podiatech technology to create custom orthotic inserts right in the office. These inserts aren’t just about comfort—they enhance performance, reduce injury risk, and are trusted by professional athletes worldwide, from soccer players to marathon runners.
Medical-Safe Pedicures
Foot care shouldn’t come with risks, yet many standard pedicures can expose people to infection or poor hygiene. At my clinic, we offer medical-grade pedicures in a safe, sterile environment. It’s the perfect option for those who want the benefits of nail and skin care without compromising their health—especially important for people with diabetes or other medical concerns.

Looking Ahead
My mission is to change the way people experience podiatry—making it more personal, more advanced, and more focused on long-term results. Whether through innovative technology, personalized orthotics, or simply the extra time I spend listening to my patients, I want every person who walks through my doors to feel cared for, respected, and confident in their treatment.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back on my path to opening my own practice, I can see that a few core qualities, skills, and mindsets have been especially impactful.
Being Personable
One of the greatest strengths I’ve leaned on is the ability to connect with people. When you can truly meet others where they are—whether colleagues, patients, or business partners—you begin to understand their challenges and see the world through their perspective. That builds genuine compassion and trust, and those are the foundations of meaningful relationships.
An Eye for Detail
I’ve also learned that the little things matter. Attention to detail sets you apart in subtle but powerful ways—whether it’s making sure the magazines in the waiting room are neatly aligned, putting the shopping cart back at the store, or ensuring a paint job has crisp, clean edges. People notice. And when they see that you take care of the small things, they trust you to handle the big things with the same care and excellence.
Staying Humble
Perhaps most importantly, humility has been an essential teacher. School was not without its challenges, and starting a business comes with plenty of moments that test you. Success is rarely instant, and failure is part of the process. Humility means listening to others, learning from mistakes, and recognizing you don’t always have all the answers. For me, that has often meant hearing and appreciating the perspective of my wife, whose ideas and insights have shaped many of the decisions I’ve made. Staying humble has allowed me to keep growing, adapting, and building something stronger than I could have on my own.
Together, these qualities—personability, attention to detail, and humility—have not only guided me through the challenges of entrepreneurship but also defined the way I interact with others and the way I want my business to be experienced.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

One of the most influential books in my personal and professional development has been Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara. The book dives into the art of going above and beyond—of creating moments of care and surprise that transform an ordinary service into an extraordinary experience.
What resonated with me most was the idea that every detail matters. Guidara illustrates how the smallest touches, when done with intention, can make people feel truly seen and valued. It’s not just about delivering what’s expected—it’s about noticing the unspoken needs and elevating the experience in ways that leave a lasting impression.
That philosophy has deeply shaped how I run my clinic. Yes, my primary responsibility is treating foot and ankle conditions, but Unreasonable Hospitality reminded me that care is never just physical. It’s also emotional, social, and even holistic. I focus not only on solving medical problems but also on creating an environment where patients feel comfortable, respected, and understood. Something as simple as taking extra time to answer every question, offering a clean and calming space, or remembering a personal detail about someone’s life can turn a medical visit into something meaningful.
One of Guidara’s key lessons is that true hospitality requires humility and awareness—you have to pay attention, care enough to notice, and then act on it. That mindset has encouraged me to look beyond the “diagnosis” and think about the whole person sitting in front of me. My goal is to create the best possible experience for every patient, one that reminds them they’re not just a case to be solved but a person to be cared for.
In many ways, Unreasonable Hospitality has become the playbook for how I want to practice medicine: with precision, detail, and above all, genuine compassion.
