Meet Dr. Kat Richardson

We recently connected with Dr. Kat Richardson and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Kat , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
I am in a tough business. It’s not for the faint of heart. I have to deal with women that have been struggling to conceive for years, sometimes with multiple pregnancy losses. I deal with people in pain, mental illness, depression, and most commonly at their most vulnerable states. I won’t lie. Sometimes it’s hard to find the light.

Where does my optimism come from? In short. My Dad. He started out in the school system as a drivers education teacher. He is now the principal at one of the top performing public high schools in the nation. . He is retiring this year and has dedicated his life to education and ensuring his students succeed not only in education but in life. Every year we have this tradition where he reads me his speech for graduation. He proceeds to read all the accolades and accomplishments of his students. Every year I’m enamored by the achievements of these students and know they are a direct reflection of him and his leadership. He chose purpose. He chose to see light in every student (and teacher) he comes in contact with. And those lucky enough to seize a glimmer of his idealism, are immediately motivated to be the best versions of themselves.

One of my favorite quotes from Ernest Hemingway is “we are all broken, that’s how the light gets in”. I try to instill this in some of my tough cases. I believe that, like my father, most people just want to know someone believes in them

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have always been very passionate about the human body and how it works. I’ve taken pharmaceutical medication before and I’ve had so many side affects. I came of birth control prior to conceiving my twins and it took a while for my body to balance out. I was a hormonal wreck and my health suffered. And guess what they wanted to do to fix me? More drugs…

I healed my body with holistic medicine and I vowed to do to the same for my patients.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Discipline: it’s crucial in my business not to allow the struggles people portray get the best of me. These patients are coming to me to help them, to listen and to guide them into a better more natural way of healing their body. I have to be an advocate for them. My job is not to cure people it’s to heal people

My advice to anyone becoming a holistic practitioner is to trust your process, be strong and steadfast in your knowledge base and care. My dad always says people don’t care how much you know unless they know how much you care.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Balance.

When I first opened my office I felt the need to build my empire and throw myself into work. I wanted to make myself available all the time. I worked all the time. I got burnt out very quickly and barely had enough energy to spend on my twins (as if I had energy having twins anyway right? Ha)

With the help and support from my husband, lots and lots of acupuncture and herbs, and learning to balance my workload, , I was able to be a better mom and wife. This also allowed me to be a better Doctor. I was preaching to depressed, anxious and stressed out patients to take a step back and focus on themselves. While I was working 24/7 exhausted. I now maintain a healthy work life balance and am more successful because of it.
